Default how much for a garage to charge to do a S2 head gasket ??

my cars in a tuning place at the moment and the bill is slowey rising . my mate had done the head gasket and the car had only been started ands left standing for 40 mins to check it didnt over heart . now ive got it trailler to the garage to get it tuned etc , and now the next problem is its leaking water in to one of the cylinders and causing one of the spark plugs to get wet . so now they have said it needs the head gasket doing . so including a skim and new bolts etc , what should i be looking at paying ????

they have told me a price but i think its a little high considering they deal with these cars everyday ?

what should i pay ??

i paid £40 to get my head skimmed but that was me removing and refitting the head.

remember if they do it they will charge to you remove te head (2 hours labour) and re-fit (another 2 hours) plus new head bolts and gaskets etc on top of the skim

I know it's a different car but I got quotes ranging from £300-£600 for my 1.8 zetec, so yours sounds very reasonable.

Gasket can go if it is not done properly, ie head is warped and needs skimming but wasn't done ?

yes changing the head gasket is the same process for any car but do you think it would take the same amount of time do do a gasket on a s2 and say a lotus esprit v8 twin trubo? no majority of price diffreneces is labour cost,

i would charge book time, plus the extras as some one else listed, oil and filter antifreeze, timing belt, tensioner if date of last change was unknown, head set and bolts, pressure test and head skim, nothing more and nothing less, any thing found once stripped is noted and customer advised while apart just incase they want it doing, if that price includes all that i think it is a very very fair price hourly labour rates vary from 30 to 100 pound per hour now a days.

It's an easy job, really easy. Can no one near you do it in the RSOC or something?

headset for a cossie engine is 400 quid though for a start, belt and tensioner is 80 quid then theres the oil at 40 quid, antifreeze 5 quid, filter at 8 quid, the skimming and the labour

sorry but 900 is a little ott but its gonna cost a min of 700 quid

changing a headgasket aint a hard job,,,,, but if you do it wrong its fucking expensive and thats why the labour charge is there as its not just a few bolts to turn and fit

dont forget that real garages cost money to run and they have to pay bills and live too

how many of the people on here get payed over 100 quid a day to work for a company,,,, how you think your wages get paied ?

doing a cosworth head gasket is alot of work compared toa cvh and £330 for doing a cvh head gasket is not a bad price, a cvh head gasket you are better off doing yourself..

Head set plus bolts - £50
Oil and filter - £35
Antifreeze - £10
Head skim - £25
Labour to remove head, strip parts for skimming, reassemble head and finally refit head (5 hours@ £40 per hour) - £200

Rough prices (of what I would have charged a few years ago when running a garage) and adds up to £320 so imo £330 is about right

All adds up I'm afraid
