Default Recovery Vehicles

Can these be hired? I need to transport my car and at the moment the only way of doing this is having a tow bar fitted (£179) and hiring a trailer. If I can hire a recovery vihicle for a couple of days it'll save me getting a tow bar fitted to my Passat and the hire of a trailer. Any suggestions?

I looked into this years ago and could not at the time find anyone who hired out recovery trucks.
