4x4s have too many diffs to go wrong And they have the MT75 which is a great 'box, but with higher power 4x4s can be ripped apart if not upgraded/maintained. 3rd's the weakest.

Other than that, usual Cossie checkpoints depending on how bothered you are about it: paint matching, body panels not lining up, VIN plate and stamp (drivers sill flap) match up and not tampered with, creases in boot floor, etc.

Smoke on startup - a bit of a haze is OK - clouds are expensive. Blue is oil, grey is oil/head gasket, white is head gasket, black is just running a bit rich. Make sure it's cold before the seller starts it up for you. Turbo shaft play - in and out is bad, a tiny bit side-to-side is ok.

It's a Ghia with a proper engine, so make sure the toys work. Later models had heated front seats as an option - but these were never leather! Air con's expensive to re-gas, so if it needs doing, haggle.

Leather was an option from 1989 onwards. If leather was installed at the factory, the 'Trim' box on thr VIN plate will say 'S'.

VIN should start WF0FXXGBBF - Year code in VIN should be K (1989), L (1990), M (1991), or N (1992).

Don't let them sell you a '1993' Sierra - Sierras were only BUILT up to December 1992 - the only thing that can be a '1993' Sierra is one that was registered in 1993 or later.

That's a good one - Mint ones I think don't reach 10k any more, but an unmolested one with delivery miles could well ask for that. Values seem to have dropped since I bought my 2wd three years ago.

9k is probably highest I've seen an A1 one for recently , but personally, I think 8k isn't unreasonable for A1.

A ropey one that needs work doing , 3.5-5k. Average condition: anything inbetween ropey and A1, depending on its merits.

One that's been heavily modified is up to you, base it on the value of the modifications, history, receipts(!) and condition of the car.

RS Owners club forum/site might give you something more definitive though, or get hold of a copy of Fast Ford - there's a relatively good guide to prices in there.
