Default late spec mondeo radio

anyone got any ideas as to what the extra wires do? is it just to conetrol the radio via the stick on the column or is it something else?

i've got one ready to go in but i don't want to poke about if i need other stuff doing first

I'm confused by your question and what stereo you've got to go in.

Can you elaborate a bit and I can help.

right
got a 02 mondeo
got no radio in it
got a sony black faced 6 disc head unit for the 04- car
it works (so yay me ) and it does stuff, but the remote stick onthe steering wheel does nothing and i've got a whole other plug for that to go somewhere else i'm assuming

so, do those wires go anywhere and can i get an adapter to get it to work?

btw, the radio fits, but the dash needs a bit of trimming to get it to fit in the old school dash

pics later on tongiht

The Sony head unit will undoubtedly need a Sony steering column controller, such as the RM-X2s or RM-X4s...The standard one's a Ford proprietary jobbie

Does the Sony head unit have a jack on the back like a blue headphone socket? If so, that's the remote socket, at least it is on 'normal' Sony head units

YOu're talking about the double din size, round small buttons, green lighted, black face looking one? Standard fitment to later HIGH spec mondeos like the ST's

If so.

On the back is the quadlock system ????

On your car if you have the standard mondeo remote to the left of the steering wheel- you should find a small white plug in the radio recess - this white plug then fits in one of the holes on the quad lock- disconect the quad lock and pop it in which ever side it fits. reconnect the quad lock.

If its not that one... Audio leads do a lead to convert the standard ford remote so that it works with after market stereos.

yes shings, right on the money about the radio

but the plug on the other end doesn't seem to match up, it's a long wide one with 2 rows and doesn't fit anywhere in the back of the radio

thew other thing is that the centre console doesn't fit properly either, but thats not a problem as it's fitted now

the other problem is that the switches don't fit in the holes that the switches are supposed to fit into, the heated seats switches don't fit into the heated switch hole in the bottom and there is no where to put the cup holder either
and even though the air con controls work, as is you don't plug the unit in and it don't work but you do and it works but you can't change anything is also pissing me off as well, the plugs are the same but ther is no light on the screen

and the other switches, where do i start, i've got hot screens back and front and iv'e got 12 wires on that switch pari, but the new one has only got 6 pins to plug into, so where dso the wires go?

and the same as the heated seats, they don't fit in the same holes

there are loads more things that just don't quite fit either

pics in a bit as i've got loads

You need a convertor.

The dash on the 02/03 cars are slightly different but look the same...

The stereo originally in that car is the old style black stereo similar to in the older fiestas and escorts etc- andhence the wiring is different

I am afraid trial and error if audio leads dont do anything.

That small one with the red end IS the remote lead- it should go in the spare space on the quad lock- IF it was the small white plug.

Unft as I dont have a mondeo or access to one anymore I cant tell you the wiring for it.

Sorry.. at least you know tho.

The one in my 06 2.0TDCi plays MP3s from CD??? Also has 3.5mm jack in glove box for ipods

Mine isnt the multichanger though, but i thought that the changer did MP3 like the single slot one?? glad i didnt go one higher now

You can get more than 6 albums on the same disc when burning MP3 anyway, so didnt see the point in going for the changer

In fact I am suprised you say that as I used to put MP3 CD's in my lesser spec stereo in my 03 plate mondeo.... the grey faced one.

are you talking about flat file discs? e.g. burn .mp3 files onto a cd, like you would to transfer computer to computer?? Or do you meant burnt audio discs out of converted MP3s?

mp3 as in songs that you burn to cd which normally play on cd players etc as opposed to files which you use to tranfer data from one computer to another (also known as back ups )

right, it seems that i have an update

the plugs in the back of the ac controls do indeed fit each other
but they don't work the ac
they do however, turn the sidelight son and then drain the battery

they also turn the hazards on and then don't turn them off again even if youpress the hazard light switch so more

if anyone can get me a copy of the old and new wiring diagrams for both types of mondeo to see if they are swapable then i'll have a look at what does what, otherwise i'll be chopping the dash apart to get the old switches to fit into the new one

that said, i do have a few spare dahs consoles so i'm not too bothered about butchering just the one

but now, kebab and then sleep

ill clear up what i said above,

the single disc unit which looks the same as that as fitted to the focus ST2 plays mp3 data discs and has an aux input in the blovebox to connecting an external source (ipod etc), the 6 disc changer as in the ST3 has the aux input BUT cant play mp3 data discs - this applies from models upto march 07 . this has now changed with the gen2 sony 6 disc headunit which can play mp3 data discs and normal audio discs

how do we tell the difference them dave? is there a different model number or will it still be listed the same?

also, is it backwards compatable? as in can you mod the older unit to do the same thing?
