Lovely looking Sierra Cossie, immaculate! owner should be very proud...

He's just gone and transplanted a Vauxhall Red Top Turbo into it! Now that's taking the ****ing piss.

Look where the dizzy is for a start, compared to a standard layout (mine shown below)
WTF is going on with the air filter pipework though

TBH, a turbo red top isnt much worse than a YB for tuning or reliability, one of the best 2litre engines around.
If thats a replica, which it prob is, then so what.

if someone built a 3dr rep and put an ls2 in it would you al feel the same? or a grp 4 escort with a honda s2k engine?
Id wager its not a real cossie, and the let is a readily available, cheap, good engine.

The vauxhall LET's are good engines and i would say generally more reliable than a YB, if maintained and tuned properly. I would also say its easily upto the standard of the YB if around the 300bhp mark. Many actually say its a better engine design than YB's.
Ive had a few ranging from the standard 204bhp upto around the 300 mark with no real issues at all.
It is a bit of a strange combination though and i cant see him/her actually taking out a healthy YB for the LET, so as said, its either a replica build up, or maybe the YB blew up and he had a LET lying around and threw it in for the laugh.

Im gonna put a Scooby engine (or a A-series from a metro) in a real RS500 if i win the lottery.
And put a Delta bodykit on it.
And paint it pink.
With rattlecans.
And put a murial of a skull headed murmaid, with wings, riding a harley with flames coming out the exhausts, on the bonnet.
And bigrig style smokestack exhausts.
It will be awesome.

ok, here's some background.
the pics were taken from a thread i started in another forum (i didn't have the balls to but it up here!) and the car belongs to a friend. he bought it as you see it. the car wasn't a cossie to begin with and infact was a 1.6 iirc but everything about it is genuine cosworth spec from the kit to the interior, the brakes to the rear end. i don't know exactly why the guy decided to build it but i do know that he only put the vauxhall engine in to be different, if he put the yb in then it would just be another 3dr cossie rep and there was a fair wee bit of work in it too, not exactly a bolt for bolt conversion, yb would have been the easy option. he's doing something similar with a mk2 esc.
the owner has no real plans to change it except to enlarge the boost hoses as they are a little restrictive and was talking about a set of comp. mo's but not sure if he still wants them. it was in at wallace performance last week for an evo chip upgrade but didn't fit it because he needs an uprated fuel pressure regulator. the guys tweaked it for stanard running and he's that happy with how it goes now might not even bother with the chip. can't stress enough how nice this car is, no a fault anywhere! if you didn't know better, you'd think it was completly standard!
for all the haters, can't really see how its de-valued/wrecked a good car. he would have paid 2or 3 times the price for a "proper" one and it goes just as well as one!

You can look at it two ways, 1.) He's got cossie looks and cossie performance with better reliablitly maybe, for a third the price of a real 3 door OR 2.) He's got a car that looks better than a cav/calibra with the same performance and rwd for the same value as a good cav/calibra turbo.
Either way, credit to the lad for going for something different.

reason ably easy conversion, i believe, plus there's nothign wrong with that lump. i realise it's vauxhall etc etc, but they're very capable engines,... perhaps not as capable as a YB but better than a zetec, (unless you're willing to spend £££££)
i think it's nice to see something different, and learning that it wasn't a cossie in the first place it all makes sense.
what can you pick up a cossie lump for? compared to a c20let?
