http://www.freevehiclecheck.co.uk however it seems to be down at the moment but they will do a hpi check and tell you if its recorded however for furthur details you have to call a premium rate number (basically if the cars a total loss itll tell you its on the register but wont say whether its a Cat C or Cat D etc)

RAC used to do a basic vehicle check stating no of previous owners and date of last keeper change however that link seems to have recently disappeared from their site
