reversing onto an A road is illegal - check your highway code, sheepshagger.

here in germany, if a car hits a child less than a certain age, the car driver is 100% responsible, no matter what the speed was or if the kid literally jumped in front of you. after that age and up to another age, it is 50% the fault of the driver, and 50% the fault of the parents. how ridiculous is that? at no time is it the responsiblity of the kid! so the little sods just run around the street in front of you.

i'm not entirely convinced that looking out for speed cameras on the side of the road is properly paying attention to the road.

You could be right, but my view is that it is just something else you should look out for - just as a sign indicating a bend ahead would make you slow down, so should the big yellow box.

i would rather rely on looking at the road and roadsigns to alert me to hazards, rather than looking out for speedcameras that may or may not be placed in a hazardous area. but what can you do? it seems the individual is not allowed to think for himself anymore

some stats in a bike magazine i have just read in the last week said that looking out for a camera can use 50% of the available time when driving through a hazardous area, when you should've spent that time looking at the hazard itself

If you drive sensibly in built up areas then you dont have to spend time looking for cameras

When you start to think about all of the things you do when you drive/ride I really do find that hard to believe definately a bit generous there.

I know what you are saying, but I personally find that they have been around long enough now for me to be on the look out without thinking about it at all, much like you don't think about all of the other things you jus 'do' when on the road. Hell, we are all not talking on the mobile phone while driving so we can use that time to look for cameras

Yes mate, we were more on about the ones on a long straight bit of dual...

Anyway, after all that, look out for a post from me saying 'just got flashed by that camera up the road

We've got 8 cameras over here on the Island now, and 2 of them comply with the government guidelines of putting them at accident blackspots/schools.

The others are all on hills or a nice straight section of road

I am all for them being outside schools to help reduce speed to stop kids getting knocked down.

But as for the others they are just money making machines for the police and government

Well I think we all agree that there's a time and a place for cameras and the present situation is that many cameras appear to be in places where the most revenue is likely to be generated. Just one thing though...

reversing onto an A road is illegal - check your highway code, sheepshagger.
Not if you're reversing off your driveway....

YEs but you cannot be convicted by them.

You will receive a warning letter and the police may even set a speed trap up to target you if you repeatedly float the limit.

I've had a go with the new laser hand held speed camera! (As i'm working with the police for a show next year)

they have a range of 500 yards The old radar ones would just take the speed of the car/cars travelling towards you hence if one was speeding other 1 wasn't your in a pickle to prove who was the guilty party...BUT

The new ones work on a single lazer beam (kinda like the one you'll get on a rifle) It's very accurite and precise.....and because you point n shoot there is no chance of getting away if like in the other situation theres 2 cars.

P.S they are fookin heavy! And another thing they don't work through glass..Yes i'm serious!

nah you get done by the camera as it registers on the body of the car. the officer records your number plate as far as i was aware?

not sure if they take pictures? as you could in theory protest and say you werent there at the time and they must of made an error. but youd need a concrete alibi and some mad fluke that a car identical to yours with a very similar number plate drove past for example??

True about giving the camera's to residents

Road in Dickens heath in Brum called Tyth Barn lane.. very la de da.

It used to be a short cut between the straty road a good pub.

Plod gave a few speed guns and note books etc and told em to crack on.

AJ - the laser beam gets fucked up if it's 'triggered' through glass.....

so if a copper was being lazy and sitting in his car it wouldn't work

the lazy coont has to get out

Wrong! You are in fact supposed to reverse into your driveway so you may pull out of your drive facing forwards.
