Just had my engine rebuilt on my escort cosworth and have just put it in and put cambelt on started it and it backfired and runs as lumpy as hell do you think have the timming out am 99% sure its right or could t be a air leak cheers

 

if its back firing id say its timing mate.

i bet something is out by a tooth.

 

I guess you timed it as per the workshop manual - as after reading on here before doing my change some people time the crank to the grove on the front pulley instead of the cps mark...

 

Right im gong to double check it

 

Map sensor chucks out loads off crap and can idel like crap if no joy on the timming and phase sesors are crap to HOLD ON ALL FORDS ARE

 

Deffo timing, i would say the Dizzy/Spark pully might be out, i had this on my saph once.
