Default Omegas RWD?

Been looking at Omegas as I quite fancy one

Anyway, been looking at a couple on eBay and have noticed that the engines are mounted longitudinally a.k.a RWD...I was always under the impression that they were FWD?

So, are they RWD??

I have only ever done major work on one, a 2.5V6.
The belt snapped at 59,000 miles took out all 24 valves, and all 24 guides, very costly and a pain to work on, but lovely car to drive.

They are, and if you go for the diesel version it is the BM 5series TDS engine (not sure which years did which models etc as Omegas not my cuppa), supposed to be a good diesel, but does need 5k services.

yeah rwd for sure, i'd love one but they just look rough now-a-days, mk2 looks better but what you pay for a good mk2 you can probably buy 2 mk1's and it's the very same car just with sublte bodywork changes.

never driven a 3.0 but the 2.5 goes ok, lovely motorway cruiser though. total arse to work on mind you.

I had an Omega 2.5 TDS Estate with the BMW engine last year while I was building the E30 - VERY nice to drive, plenty of poke and could pull a house down with the torque

Cheers fellas, will more than likely be going for the 2.5 V6 if I get one, although I will give the diesel a test drive see what I think might make a bit more sense considering the mileage that I do

Next question (although in fear of sounding like an old man ) is what is the fuel economy of the 2.5 V6 like? I do quite alot of town driving but then also a fair bit of open road driving etc....Would be more likely to wait out for a Manual as well as opposed to an Auto...

i love omegas and old senators, plod spec ones direct at auction
can be spectacular bargains and some 3.2 mv6's have the manual
gb,have been told they have a irmscher chip to make them faster.
the 2.0 litre ones are good on fuel really, just watch out for old taxis.
the later shape ones are fantastic crusers, and feel modern still
have seen manual mv6's with recaro chairs and irmscher kit + nice
alloys and they look great

My step-dad has a 2.5 V6 Auto Estate on a V plate witch is a lovely car to drive and it averages 26 -30 mpg.

He took it to Scotland (from our house in Ormskirk near Liverpool) a while back and said it drove brilliantly and when he got there he wasnt tired or cramped like you would be in some cars.

I drove a 2.0 manual and it used to get around 36mpg.
The 2.5 V6(auto) that I used for a while used to get 20/22 mpg, nice car but boring and slow.
V6 2.5/3.0 have a bad rep for trouble, 2.0 fine car if a bit(lot) slow.
