Default MY HARLEY...UPDATED 21-04-07

Bought it looking like this...big, wide and low...but although lookswise it was good, buildquality was poor...

The suspension bottomed out against the oiltank, wiring was a mess and loads of other niggly faults made me decide to tear the whole thing apart and start over....

Although I liked the look of the bike, it wasn't what I would have build myself so I'm busy building it to my personal tastes....

A few pics of the mock-up proces, trying to sort out seating position and such...

As for current specs:

-1950's replica panhead frame with wishbone downtubes, original cast headstock etc. widened at the rear to accept 180 tyre

-FLH wideglide frontforks with custom made billet yokes, downtubes powdercoated flat black

-custom fueltank with hidden fixtures, fifties speedster fuelcap with brass screws and closures

-custom stainless oiltank, made from parts of a bottler out of a brewery

-alloy rims front and rear, powdercoated flat black, stainless spokes, 130 tyre front and 180 rear, both balloontype

-shortened flattrackbars with internal throttle

Should go and take pics of all the parts, every part has been homemade or heavily modified!

It was fitted with a tuned EVO engine and a 5-speed, engine has been sold and a 2 litre will be fitted, got a 4-speed with kickstart ready for it and it will be converted to run both chain and open primary with belt

I like things that are modded in the sense that I like having my own personalised ride...it's enjoyable to design and build it and I guess for me it's got quite a bit of 'emotional value' as I've put a lot of my own creativity and energy in it.

Anyway, the finished article will be very very low, with very short and wide forks and wide rear, other than that all flatblack and brass *always loved the JPS Lotuscars!* and very minimalistic.

It's got only 4 gears, not electric starter, no speedo, no mirrors, no idiotlights, no indicators, no front mudguard

The front is only a 130 but being a balloontyre it looks pretty wide!

personally I despise chrome....

I've powdercoated the downtubes, rims and mudguard flatblack and have just spend 150 quid on a flatblack paintjob on the tank

When I pick up the tank and I've fitted the brass fuelcap I'll take some pics....

I like the bike to be low, short, wide and clean

LOVELY!!!

Just bought a VN800 to do something very similar to, making it looke very 50's chopper/bobber style... just put white wall tyres on it, changed the exhaust, taken the wing mirrors off, and taken the front mud guard off, just sorting out the seating now!

I quite like some of the exile bikes but they have a few minor details that are flawed...

When i went to the states i went to billy lanes shop.... the dude himself was there working whhich was kinda weird... but you werent allowed to talk to him! and there were womens bra's hanging all over the place because apparantly if you gave him your bra youd get a free picture with him.... no... no i didnt!

Indian Larrys bike were a bit troo crazy for me! especially with the horrid ratfink on most.... but he died doing what he loved most.....

russell mitchells bikes are great i think... plain, simple but effective.... did anyone see the trike he did for the biker build off?

To be honest, there is so much hype going on in the bikebuilding business...

Billy Lane, Russel Mitchell and others are treated and acting like celebrities wich I think is rather sad, some builds are indeed very nice but there are enough wich you could easily improve on.
Custom bikes are a crze at the moment and I see to many people with west coast custom shorts and caps if you know what I mean...

Bernie! How's life mate?

No idea what it's gonna be like to kickstart the fucker but the plan is to fit two decompression valves and pray and won't launch me into orbit when it kicks back

My Husaberg is a real bastard to kickstart as well, kicks like a mule!

Nice runaround, was working on a dyna twincam only yesterday, couldn't get it to idle under 800 rpm properly though

Life's good mate

Why don't you just fit an electric starter Steph?
Otherwise, isn't it gonna be expensive to keep importing Brom to start the bastard for you?

I remember trying to kickstart a Triton when I was about ten. Took ages to get back in the country....

Bernie: electric starters for Harley's weigh a ton, look like shit and I think it's suits the minimalistic and oldfashioned approach of this bike!

Triton's are a piece of piss to start! parallel twin! Had a T120R racer myself
