Default Gearbox problems.....

...my girlfriend has a 99 Fiesta Zetec 1.25 & suddenly the gearbox lost all the spring loading in the centre neutral area. It still selects the gears fine but she keeps going from 2nd to 5th instead of 3rd & the like because of it (even though I told her it was probably coz she's a crap driver ).

Any idea's as to what this is & how much it's likely to cost? She went to a local garage & just rang me to tell me that they said it would need a new "remote" & it was gonna cost a bollock load but I've never heard of such a thing inside a gearbox?

Cheers,
Ian

I dunno mate? How could this happen & would it cause the neutral to be sloppy with no spring action back to centre?

Cheers,
Ian

no idea mate, but I hope you get it sorted, a box would only be Ł200 from the breakers out of a smashed one, if I were you id just slap a box in it.

Cheers Glen but if it is just a spring or something that's snapped then I'd prefer to replace that than the full box
