Phone them up and say that you cant afford the repair and the warranty company wont pay that much, so you dont wish them to do any more to it.
Ask them if there is a charge (of course there is but I would still word it that way) for what they have done so far.
BEFORE doing that though, find someone who can trailer it back to your house, you must know someone with a tow bar and a car trailer is only 25 quid a day round here, so im sure it is up there as well, trailer it home, then you have time to work out what you are going to do.
Did you speak to the dealer about costs before you instructed them to start work on it?
I always advise anyone taking their car to a garage to set a limit of how much they are prepared to spend before recieving a phone call asking for permission to do further work.

Call martin like porkie first suggested and ask him to put an engine in. It wont be anywhere near the amount.
As for legal advice i'll give you some for free, granted i'm not qualified but you know, you pay peanuts you get....
You drove home knowing your car was fucked just because you had a date. It's not the people you bought it from's fault as no matter how many inspections an engine get's things can still go wrong. It's just one of those things, call martin and see what he can do. And next time if your car sounds fucked, it usually is. And if theres a flashy light giving you a free disco it IS fucked.

If I get a replacement engine though, won't it have to be a Seat branded one even though they're the same, as wouldn't the insurers know if the engine put in was an Audi branded one from the engine number and try to insure me as being modified?

Chip, what you're talking about is Voluntary Surrender and Voluntary Termination.
Surrender is where you give the car back, the finance co sell it at auction, take off what the car makes and you have to repay the rest. This is done after they issue you a settlement figure of course, but still leaves an outstanding balance that could be thousands.
Termination is when you reach halfway through the term and hand the car back, and make no further payments on it.

If not much then by my reckoning (I don't know much about this stuff) but I would just dump the car on Carcrafts doorstep and tearup the finance agreement, cancel the direct debit and let them reposess it. You already have bad credit anyway Seriously though you will get a bad credit rating, but if you have learnt not to use credit then does it matter that much?

i agree driving with the engine light was silly but as said before, when were put on the spot we forget simple things.
but your warrenty confusion needs to be sorted, they might have screwed you on that.

...Dogsmoke will you look at your warranty book please and see what the max is per claim?.....if you buy a car and it breaks down within 3 months you can take the car back if bought from the trade...its called consumer protection..BUT they get away with that if they give you a warranty...i tried to buy my Ducati for cash from a proper trader and said they couldnt sell it without a warranty..so got a 1k per claim,unlimited for 1 year ...also my mondeo i bought for the missus came with a 3 month warranty...this covers the trader from what i said earlier

Yes mate, thats the one I was thinking of, I dont know where you stand if you keep paying your loan now till halfway then hand it back with a fucked engine.
Not sure if they can charge you for that or not.

But what car do I drive round in - one of two 309 diesel sheds, both worth around £20LOL!!
Even when the Escort was on the road I still drove round in whatever shed I had at the time.

However, the law now states that if you are claiming replacement, repair, full or partial refund within the first six months of ownership, the onus is on the trader to prove that the goods were acceptable when they were sold. This is called the ‘reversed burden of proof’.
If they don't carry out the claimed checks then they could be onto a loser here.
However, if I have no joy with them then I'm probably going to get it repaired, get a settlement figure, and sell it. I want out now, I've lost faith. The warranty ain't worth a shit, I've already been conned out of a promised £700 cashback on the car because "oh there's no record of that being offered" and now I dunno what will be next to develop a fault.
As I have made a large contribution to it being damaged so badly (the snapped cam etc) I'm not gonna push it. If I get no joy then I will do as I have said above. I just want out now. Rather do that and spend £2k on an E36 for the time being.

ok, did carcraft service it or claim they serviced it before they sold it to you and do you have this in writing?
If yes ask the garage what they think has caused the blockage, if they are unsure ask them to cut open the oil filter too inspect it.
There is a chance they never serviced it and the filter has broken down internally causing the blockage. In which case you can go back to carcraft and say i have the report from seat which says the filter caused the fault and your guys did the service.

Heres my two penneth...
What casued the engine failure almost 100% is a blocked oil strainer (pick up pipe). Having worked at a VAG main dealer, this happens lots and lots, caused by servicing being missed and or the wrong grade of oils used. IF caught in time, and its a big if (ie the oil light just flickering) you can get away with it, change the strainer & away you go.
I saw a1.8 20vT (Audi a4 1.8T sport - 02 reg) engine the other day with exactly the same failure, caused exactly by the same level of "Fuck it, i'm not bothering to look" attitude. That had been driven for 85 miles with the fuckin light on....Both cams were snapped, turbo was siezed solid, bores scorred etc. Quite rightly the warranty company took one look, and put it down to driver abuse, basically beacuse they carried on regardless.
You say the car was a lease car in a previous life, well probably it was on variable intervals(the car tells you when it needs servicing based on mileage/useage/time etc), it has probably had the shit kicked out of it, used loads of oil, and the sump would be full of shit.
IF you go down the route of a 2nd hand engine, do yourself a favour & get the sump whipped off & change the strainer..
The warranty company will if pushed, instruct an independant engineer to strip the engine (partially). Once they see the cams snapped,cam bearings blackened with heat, they will :-
a.) tell you to fook off
b.) invoice you for the engineers time (not cheap)

Lol. I've actually calmed down a bit now and although I will speak to Carcraft to see if I can get anything done, but I'm not going to push it if not.
My current plan of action to be honest is get the car back minus the engine, pay the £224 the garage are owed for the labour so far, speak to Martoon and see what price he wants to source and fit an engine for me.
I'm pretty pissed off with myself to be honest now I've calmed down and realised how stupid I've been. Wish people wouldn't be so harsh though, at the end of the day I've only been driving 2 years as of this month and don't really have a lot of experience of things going wrong.

I just want out now as I've lost faith from a cobination of the car obviously not being serviced by them and the £700 cashback they screwed me out of.

Suppose you're right Chip.
If I do end up getting shut of it, I think I'm gonna go back to an E36 for a year, possibly a 328 Sport. Haven't really thought about it yet but my 325 never let me down. Miss that car loads now
If I do end up getting shut of it, I think I'm gonna go back to an E36 for a year, possibly a 328 Sport. Haven't really thought about it yet but my 325 never let me down. Miss that car loads now
