Default 1 Rolls Royce Meteor engine + An old Rover = .........

Full thread here.... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...3&t=245424&h=0

Pictures are on pages 1, 8, 9, 12, 13, 16, 19, and 20.

As it stands, it'll only put out about 800 bhp@1600 rpm and 1500 lb/ft @ 2300 rpm. Max revs are achieved at about 2300 rpm
Some vids of it running.....

Just a vid of a RR Meteor V12 starting up without exhausts....

possibly one of the oldest and resposted things ever, but hey.

interesting but utterly pointless car that IIRC has been being slowly built for over 20yrs or summat daft.

dont thnk we will ever see any real worthwile performance from it, not with the transmission plans i read when i last bothered to look.

Nail - Head

Overweight and not particuarly powerful engine (compred to big power LS2 lumps in oz etc) added to car that doesnt handle.

Its a fucking hell of a bit of engineering, and I think its fantastic, but at the same time, its going to be horrid to drive, not amazingly quick consdering, will handle like a tug boat and will be horrific on fuel.

Cool bit of random engineering none the less, and a good read, but I wouldnt want it personally if you gave it to me as I would have no use for it, to me cars need to have a purpose to be really cool.

who said the same as me.

you MUST be mentally disabled if you think the stock engine is better tho.

but then again you must think so if you think itl have a standard interior

you should have been at goodwood last year, they started the f#cker up while i was standing next to it! on open pipes!

i think it's purpose is to be really cool.

i think those photos must be old (it has taken 18yrs so far) as charlie looks older now (although this could be the mental strain of building such a thing)

i've been reading his build up in ppc and it is a stonking bit of engineering, regardless of what the end reslut is going to be you have o give him credit for attempting it

also, the engine is only going to be puttin gout arond the 500lb/ft mark because he's useing a bus gearbox with a 3:1 step up ratio to give him 6k+ rpm (which he reckons will be good for 200+mph)

seeing as there are only 2 seirra's i know of that have cracked the 200mph mark, and only one of them is a road car, it's better than 99.99% of the people on here have done so i'd think about what you were typing before giving him a hard time over it

it may well be over wieght and your onions may be the same as the other 99.99% of pf, but he's built it for himself, not for someone else

So you think with 18years work and the cost of it nobody would be able to knock anything better up?

Its done for a "wow ive put a silly big engine in a fairly small car" reason, and thats fair enough.

But to think its gonna be a serious performance motor is laughable, for that its shit value for money/effort.

Awesome project, awesome car, awesome man.

A hero of back yard engineering as far as i am concerned.

There is a heck of a lot of real engineering gone ito this project and all his own work.

From what i have heard it is soon to be fitted with two large GT seies turbos.

How can you say it is un cool?????

Ah, well at least then it will be quick in a straight line I guess

Cause (maybe not if turbo'd) its unlikely to be very quick, wont handle, doesnt look good, there isnt actually anything cool about it other than the "some nutter has put a tank engine into an old rover" aspect of it.

Dont get me wrong though, much as I wouldnt want it myself, I would sitll spend hours looking at it at a show just in a "WTF?!" kind of way

but it's not his day job is it
would you say the same thing baout people who build boats out of matchsticks?
there is effort gone into it which you need to appreciate, not everything is to everyones tastes but you can't knock the guy for putting a proper hell of a lot of effort into making it
besieds, how do you know it's taken 20 years to do that?
it was in there up and running 20 years ago and now he's decided to rebuild it, which is what the past 3 odd years of ppc have been documenting
