Default help plumbing in oil catch tank on a cossie

ive got an oil catch tank with 2 outlets/inlets on top.

does 1 go to the rocker cover and the other to the std postion under the inlet?

and when going to the inlet side, do i leave the black/red plastic filter on or off?
if off do i just blank the hose coming rom the inlet manifold and connect the tank to the black metal box?

cheers
