WHAT CARS WILL WE SEE WINDOWS IN?

We work with Kenwood/JVC/Alpine based on software called Windows Automotive. Ford for example is now using Microsoft Auto for Sync but Nissan, Subaru , Volvo and Citroen are now inrerested.

WHY DO WE NEED WINDOWS IN CARS

The car industry came to us, ans aid that owners wanted to integerate devices with their systems be it music or navigation. The Microsoft solution, is to find a gateway to be integrated into the car that will sync with every device

SO CAN WE JUST PLUG A MP3 PLAYER OR PHONE IN?

You can do this already with MP3 players via a USB or even bluetooth. Memory sticks can now be used.

HOW CAN YOU INTERACT WITHOUT BEING DISTRACTED?

We can now offer Metadata, so for example, you say via a hands free kit, play Jingle Bells it will. It can then also form a playlist containing similar songs. We can now offfer say for example, Call Paul, and the sytem will say " I have 3 numbers, work, mobile or home" You can then select what number you want the sofatware to dial either by voice with controls or controls on the steering wheel.

WILL MICROSOFT AUTO OFFER ANYTHING REALLY DIFFERENT TO OTHER SYSTEMS?

The next step is we will provide the geoposition of the car through bluetooth and even if you drive through a tunnel we will give sensor data like speed and direcion thecar is going so you can still get positiom. You will be able to hear directions through car hi fi and it will mute the music when thishappens.

CAN YOU TELL THE CAR ABOUT THE CALENDER??

Today if your brakes have a problem you can now and will get a message saying, 2 Go to garage, in next 1000km" and it will link to your favourite local garage and then MAKE an appointment so they then can order the right parts to arrive in time for repair. The Microsoft Vision is that you have a profile, you tell the sytem who yopur prefferred dealer is, so as soon as the car detects a problem it connects to the delaer automatically.
It then gives you say fro example 3 dates that are available and you choose which one is conevenient to you all via the system.


Impressive stuff guys me thinks. However i think reading in the lines, that this has so much more to offer both good and bad.Things that springt o mind are, to prevent tax evasion as the car can be pinpointed anywhere, newer cars with newer technoplogy could be i guess be isolated if the terms of the service policy are not adhered too.

Heres the bigger thought guys, what if it could be used to calculate the amount of miles you do, and then be charged by the Goverment for the mileage you do.....................views on this guys.............

If they are talking about using Windows though the biggest concern must be viral...
Lets face it Microsoft can't effectively track customers through the WGA so I doubt the government could use it to track vehicles.

 

Formula 1 ecus will be built and programmed by Microsoft from next year I think.
