Default Question for engineering machinists..........

What is the easiest way to shape the underside of a flat lambda type boss for an exhaust so that it mates with the radius of the pipe???

Its actually for an EGT sensor, but the principle is still the same.

Any help???

you could use a ball nosed cutter but i doubt you'd get one big enough, on a mill

you could cnc it, but would take alot of programming

you could mount it up on a faceplate on the lathe and cut the radius with a large drill

or grind it by hand (my suggestion)

if its not too big, you'd get a better finish by filing it carefully with a curved face file (radius will be similar to the exhaust)

the best way i'd say for a 1 off is to mark up the radius required with a scriber, then with a half round file shape it to suite. if it was 10 off i'd say cnc machining all the way.

Not any ive seen, mine isn't, besides its an EGT sensor rather than a Lambda so is alot smaller........
