To be honest, I did an engine conversion on my Nova (1.6GTE engine) and I know it is not the same but there was only a few wires to connect up as the loom and ecu's were essentially one unit.
I think it was
12v switched live
Ground
Rev Counter
Coil wire
12 permanent live
I cant exactly remember as it was a nova but I guess it would work on the same principle.

yes it is the same principle
same like cossie management which i can do quite happily
i canalso do tomcat turbos into maestros aswell lol
but french and swedish i havnt a clue about
it has 1 main live from battery and i think 1 main earth
then its 1 plug that has 5 or 6 wires on it
so im thinking
fuel pump
ignition
re counter
oil light
water temp
poss battery light
but i dont know whats what if you knwo what i mean
as i could be completely worng and they could just be lives and earths and not signal wires

If you only have a few wires, it would be logical for them not to be signal wires.
how have you connected the temp sensor wires? onto new loom or old one?

surely the logical thing would be to type in "volvo 480 forum" into google, then go on the forum
