Default ESCOS Strut help?????

Right im gettin the car ready for MOT and notice that the top cap that sits ontop of the spring is broke away in the middle thus letting the threaded part of the strut move around a bit and giving it a lot of play.

So i got onto Ford and enquired about an ESCOS one but there were none in the country so i ordered a pair of 4x4 saff ones as i believe they were the same yeh? (i hope im not wrong)

Heres the part i got :

However the internal diameter of these new ones are bigger than the thread on my car.

Can anyone confirm i have the right thing?

I havent had the strut off the car yet but im trying to save time as i dont rilly wanna take the strut off twice if its the wrong part. But i realise that this will tell me for sure.

Thanks in advance

thats the wrong one thats the spring cup, basically you have the shock then the spring, then the spring cup youve bought, then the bearing which sits on top, then the top cup which sits on the lot and locates it centrally , the top cups always break they are very weak im sure someone will have a pic of one

Nick is right you need the goldy coloured one that sits a bit above the one you have bought, you can get uprated ones too but I can't remember where from-this seems quite a common fault so should easily be fixed
oh and they are really cheap too

Dude, if you are anywhere near the club, I have a strut apart here that you can look at - even borrow the right bit to go to Ford with.

I've got a feeling I'm going to need to have it back for mine though, else you could keep it.

Give me a ring anyway and I might be able to help.

PS,

if it really is that part that you've got that you need, the hole being larger than the thread diameter is correct. That bit goes over the actual shaft of the shock.

Yes ive just had the shock to pieces and its definatly the gold bit thats broke.

So now the question is does anyone have a pic of one and even a finis code so i can ring up ford ans request one.

Also any ideas how much they are and is it worth replacing the bearing too?

Thanks Mark

Would be good if i could find some uprated ones at a later date as this is supposed to be a common fault on the Escos.

Ford used the same strut cap on the Escort cosworth as they fitted on a 1.0 mk 2 fiesta no wonder they break

Also same part fitted to all mk 3 & 4 escorts mk 2 & 3 fiesta all sierras

The uprated ones i seen have just had a thick washer welded into them to make them stronger
