Default Will a bigger intercooler give me more lag

I have a Sierra Cosworth 2wd and am wanting to upgrade the intercooler to am RS500 style. Will this increase the amount of lag on a standard Turbo running standard boost?

Cheers
Dave

as the turbo comes on boost (for the sake of simplicity let's give it some assumed figures and make a calculation) at 3000rpm on a 2 litre engine with a 100% volumetric efficiency, the engine is consuming 3000 litres of air per minute, or 50 litres per second.

i would say that to fill an intercooler that is double the size of another (perhaps a maximum difference from 2.5 litres to 5 litres) is not going to take long and won't be noticeable. also, you are not filling the i/c from empty with the turbo - just filling it with additional air to pressurise it above the atmospheric pressure that it will be at with a wide open throttle anyway

that's all just theory - try in practice

technically it will because youre filling a larger volume before your boost pressure is achieved but in reality you wont notice it.[/b]

to say the least.

like mentioned above, even at 3000rpm the engines consuming 50litres of air a second, an extra few litres in a intercooler aint gonna do shit to anything.

Nice one. Time to start uprating parts. is the RS500 cooler a straight fit?
