Does anyone know much any information about CERN?

All I can see is that its a European Organisation for nuclear research. Based near Geneva

Has anyone been on a visit or trip to the place??

Tim Berners-Lee worked at CERN. It's a science institute and he was developing a way for all the scientists to share their information using 'hyperlinks'. He then went on to create what we now know as http and html (although there were other people involved obviously).

One of the biggest things at CERN is the particle accelerator - massive thing!

They've been doing some major new work on it recently - take a look at this recent article on BBC News (there's a video link in the top right as well)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4327161.stm

I don't think it's just Nuclear research - all sorts goes on their to work on testing out theoretical physics in practice!

Cheers,

Andy

That article is pretty interesting esp. this part

The first of some 5,000 magnets that will bend particles at near light-speed around a huge tunnel under Switzerland and France has been lowered into place.
It is part of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a powerful machine being built in the 27km-long accelerator facility at the famous Cern lab, near Geneva.

Really would like a visit.
