Default 'ticking' zetec

alright guys and gals

the better half has an X reg 1.6 zetec escort finesse.... When it is first started it ticks from the head, maybe about 3 times a second?? But take it for a drive and after about a minute the ticking stops. Only does it on tickover, if you rev it, the ticking goes away, then when it idles again it re-appears.....

Once its been driven, if you switch the engine off, and re-start it within about 5 minutes, it will not tick, but starting it after more than about 5 mins, and it will tick again for a while, until its warmed up a bit I suppose?

Anyone know what could be wrong with it? I've recently done an oil change on it, and put some of that hydraulic valve lifter treatment in it, but that didn't cure it.

Thanks in advance

Rich

The early Zetecs are incredibly picky on oil. People have a lot of problems with sticky valves. I'd put some Motorcraft oil in.

Ah - didn't read the whole post, sorry lads............... but the regular 'snapping' or 'ticking' are the injectors. Have that on my Zetec Fiesta.
