Thanks for all the info and advice.

As i said it'll be my first road bike, but after racing in motocross for years i think i should be fine on the road. To be honest, i would say racing motorcross on track requires more concentration and awareness than riding on the road, in my opinion, as you have to be constantly aware of everthing and everyone around you, aswell as picking and planning the right lines, making note of every inch of the track, knowing where and when to gain ground etc.

I think ill be fine with a 600. Im not buying the bike to thrash around like some do, its just to enjoy a ride out now and then, so performance between the two is irrelevant really.

A passed my test only last year, and a bought a 03 R6 for my first bike.
A wont say they were a hard bike to ride, the front wheel will only lift a bit in first unless you clutch it. a love every min off it

Totally disagree mate. On track you know theres no parked car round the corner, you know theres no illeagally parked skip...no slw tractors cutting hedges...no building bricks thats dropped off wagons...no doddering old farts pulling out on you....

you have to be aware 110% on the road....

You pick lines on a track and stick to them....on the road you pick your line then suddenly it might have to change....if your not fully concentrating and riding correctly this can have you...and in head on traffic

The amount of times ice seen bikers go round a corner only to have to lock up and be lucky not to go head on as their were temp lights round the corner or a broken down car or a parked car Never ride faster round a bend than you can see is what i was taught....

To be honest mate, i think its about concertration, anticipation and awareness whether your on the road or on the track. Same principles for both, although you have much more to think about on a track and its certainly more physical and more tiring.

I imagine alot of it on the road is just common sense, the same as driving. You wouldnt go stupid speeds around an unknown blind bend (for e.g) whether in a car or on a bike. I agree though, there is some idiots on the road, but then again there are plenty on the track too that you have to be careful of, again same principles.

Yeah i guess so! If you ride a ped or a gsxr1000 you need to concentrate all the time!

As for hootling round a blind bend.... but some do

Id advise the zx6r, nicer to ride with better torque, then the gixxer, CBR and finally the R6. Just personal choice and as said not a lot in it.

R6 is quite often cheaper to insure but i never understood why

Try all of them out tho as you may not find it comfy. Properly too as ten minute test ride may be fine, but after 30min you may be in agony!

Right ive been to a couple of bike shops for a good look today, whilst out and about in Bradford. I must say i prefer the looks of the gsxr over anything else in its class so it very much looks like ill go for one of them.

Now am i right in thinking the k1, k2, k3 etc is like a model number where they made changes to the bike etc????

The thing is i was looking at 2001's for around £3500 that were near MINT, but in the window i noticed a couple of brand new unregistered bikes. Went for a closer look and they were unregistered gsxr600's the same as this one i believe.......

What suprised me even more was the price of £5995 on the road!!! I assumed a new one would cost more than that when 2001's are £3500. Ok i know its £2500 more which is a fair chunk of money but to say its 6 years newer and brand new i think it sounds like the better option to me, as generally speaking i suppose i could keep the bike for say 5 or 6 years and it would still be worth around £3k.

What are peoples thoughts on this???

Just been looking at R6's again , and it seems you can get a much newer and lower mielage R6 for similar money.

Why are they cheaper tho........?

They dont look like this for a start;

Yeah the K# your correct with. Mines a K2, as Chop said its a 750 tho. Id stick second hand as id imagine you'll want to upgrade to a larger bike after a year or so anyway.

Thats nice mate. I see what your saying about getting a brand new one, then wanting to upgrade shortly after, but i think id be satisfied with 600 for a good few years which is why im thinking of buying new. But i assume they all say that at first.

Out of interest, do the gsxr600's look the same as a 750, ie same shape fairings, same size bike, same size wheels, tyres, brakes etc etc??

Cheers.

Look at it htis way. If i bought a new one for 6k, id want it insured fully comp....whereas my 52 plate gixxer was TPF+T as it was only 3k. The difference is loads when its your first bike. IIRC i paid 380 TPFT for it, and was quoted well over a grand fully comp

at least you shot yourself down there

Noone is ever happy with the power of their car or bike

Yes the 600's are pretty much the same as 750's. Very close in size. Tyre will be narrower at rear i guess. Not sure of finer details.

I do really like the R6 too, but theres something about the gixxer in the blue/white that really sets it off from the rest.
