PART NUMBER FOR GROUP A CAM BELT??????

Incidentaly Gates have never heard of the term 'Group A' - as far as they are concerned this is just the standard belt they manufacture for a Cossie.
(It also fits Citroen Diesels and a Peugeot from memory)

We have had the Cosworth Group A argument on here far far too many times, and in most cases sellers are missleading people (Intentionally or otherwise before people say its me digging at other traders) by selling them standard parts labelled as something better, or, in group a cases, something "Different"**.

the gates cam belt which some people refer to as a group a is a little bit wider than the standard ford item iirc and is listed as an extended service belt for the pug/citreon diesel engines.
didn't want to start a debate on the term group a just wanted to see if someone could confirm the gates part number as this is what I want to purchase

Had the number given to you NOT been wrong, i dont think anyone else would have said anything and you would have had your answer. Job done.

Just checked the part number with Tracy at Cosworth who agrees with me but, as a double check has asked a fella in the spares department who actually gave the items to teh fitters back in teh day when these were new and were being put into the cars. He says it has always been teh same belt fitted and sold at Cosworth and they have never sold anything else. The Part number in question is YBO200 and has been for over 21years. It is even numbered as an old number to back this up...
For example...
The Belt Guide washer is a YB0198 and the belt pulley is a YB0197. Proving these numbers were designated right back when the engine was first designed at Cosworth around 1985.
My thoughts on this are simple... if Cosworth thought that was good enough for a cambelt, why use anything else?
The Gates 5248XS is allegedly exactly the same belt and ive fitted them for years and years.
For example...

I dont like to disagree, but HTD means High Torque Drive....when applied to a synchronous belt, AFAIK the mountune belt has a different cord material, one used for higher engine bay tempertures experienced on the Grp'a' and wrc cars with ALS etc....
I have had some dealings with both the standard and mountune belts, even to the point of analysis with gates when we had 2 failures on rallies using the standard belts. We now dont use anything other than the mountune item.
That said under normal road even mild track conditions, the cosworth belt is quite adequate....in my opinion...
