from what i can see on the granada loom (i plugged it into the fuse box i've got and did a few tests) you shoudl have power supplied to the loom by the big red wire
which goes to the power relay
this then feeds the timer relay and the switch via a black and yellow wire
but there should also be power to this from the engine relay via a blue wire to the main power relay
the screen timer seems to earth the screen heater out when it powers up
it's a bit confusing like this as if i can find the proper loom i'll tell you whic wires hsould go wehre, at the moment i can't even find the wiring diagams
which goes to the power relay

a picture is worth a thousand words mate unfortunatly i can't find the picture to take it
what you should do really is take the top of the dash apart so you can see the wires running across just below the dash
you should see one plug with 2 wires going into the rest of the loom
this is the engine running relay gubbins which is triggerd from somewehre in the ecu
with the engine running you should have power to this, which will supply power to the main power relay
then you will have wires criss crossing baout the place, but on the same section of loom as it doesn't go anywhere else other than to have one wire to iluminate the switch, the rother wiers should be black with a blue trace which goes to the timer relay, black and yellow which is normally switched pwoer from somewhere else and there should be ablack and purple one which goes to the screen itself

i can see the wires going to the screen and both relays and can acces the dash where the ECU is so should be able to trace it no worries.
I have a feeling the prob lies with the wires going to the battery.
The car has had the ECU out and in tons of times recently so maybe a wire has been damaged?

right!
i have power at red wire...12vdc.
But no power on the any other wire on the black relay...so that means the relay is gubbed yeah?
no power on black/yellow even when switchb is pressed.

it'll either be a 40A or a 70A relay
if you can find another black relay of the same ampage it'll almost certainly fit the same pin configuration
plug it back in again and see if there is power coming out of it when everything is up and running
it might be the actualy switcher bit of the relay thats not getting power whic, in turn, isn't allowing th relay to do it's job?

i've had a BIG clearout of the garage today and have still not uncovered the loom
i'll have another attempt tomorrow to find it
one thing, do you know that the relay you have replaced it with actually works?
it may be that the power that switches the relay on doesn't work, is there power getting there when you pres the switch?

the relay i replace dit does work as it was the one for the rear heated screen.
I can tell if there is power at it when you hold the button down as my arms arent long enough
just pushing the button once as you normally would does fook all
Im starting to think its maybe the switch

i've had a look and found a loom it seems that the switch gets power sent to it once you have the engine running, this also powers up the timer relay
so, if you change switch BEFORE you change the timer relay (the grey one) it should be fairly easy to figure out by procces of elimination which one it is
i've got a switch lurking baout somewhere as well as a timer relay if you want them
