Default 2WD Running Gear Into An Escort Cosworth?

Gents,

As with quite a few other people, I am thinking of building a RWD Escort Cosworth. I am starting from a Motorsport shell, so will have none of the 4WD running gear. I have a strong preference to keep my 2WD running gear due to my brakes, suspension, new diff etc.
Can someone please tell me what is involved in bolting up the complete 2WD running gear into a Escort shell?

Many thanks

not done it into an escort, but into a 4x4 sierra.

at the front, no problems to put the whole front subframe with engine and gearbox and all suspension attached in. remember that you need to keep all parts from the 2wd, including silly things like anti-roll bar clamps.

to support the 2wd t5 gearbox you will have to do something, as the piece of floor that it bolts to in a 2wd is not there as the space is needed on a 4x4 for the transfer box. easy way that i did it was to mount a 2" box section to the 4x4 floor, and then the original t5 gearbox cross member to that. there is a apparently a different gearbox cross member that will fit, although i have never tried it.

at the rear, all rear beam should bolt up easy. not sure about rear anti roll bar on an escort cosworth shell

in the middle, i am guessing that a 2wd propshaft will be too long

brake lines will also be too long, biut no problem to make some up

not sure about steering column on escos, but i guess you can mix and match from 2wd & 4x4

Hi Diablo, also be aware that the spring rates and rollbar's need to changed as a RWD escos handle quite differently from a saph or 3dr due it being shorter and wider, it was noticeable when I raced with some of them.

Andy,

That explains why I have heard that some RWD Escorts handle very poorly. Do you have any recommendations on spring rates and rollbar changes?

Cheers

Diablo, sorry no, I personally haven't done this but there must be someone on here who has done this by now.
