Default fao guitar people, buying a guitar

evening

i need some info about buying a guitar. Im tempted to get an accoustic electric over a normal electric, but im not sure yet...

i want to be able to be play songs from bands like The View, The Libertines, The Holloways, The Killers, Babyshambles, Arctic Monkeys, The Kooks, Poalo Nutini etc etc, so are very accoustic based...

however i prefer the feel of a normal electric...

is it possible to make a normal electric sound like an accoustic with one of them pedal thingys that changes the sound? how much are they?

would it be easier learning on an accoustic or electric? can you play an electro-accoustic without the amp when practicing, or does it sound shite like when you play a normal electric without sound...

a bit long-winded i know, but...

You can make an electric sound like an acoustic - in fact you can make an electric, with metal strings, sound exactly like a spanish guitar, with nylon strings..... But you need expensive processor and sound effects units to do it

If you play a normal electric guitar without it being plugged into an amp, yes it sounds shit. But an electro-acoustic is a completely different guitar alltogether. It's an acoustic with internal pickups fitted. You can plug an electro-acoustic directly into an amp to "amplify" the acoustic sound (basically sounds like an acoustic mic'd up) and add effects to it aswell.

As for whats best to learn on - thats really for you to decide, as it all depends on what you prefer for feel, sound and what you intend to play.

a guitar is an expression of yourself matey.... when you pick the right one ou, i promise you will know...

get your ass to a music shop, sit and play for a while..

and yes there are manys thing that will make an leccy guitar sound like an acoustic, on my thinline tele i have a seymore duncan piezo bridge pickup which sounds amazing and fits onto the bridge, it was about 400 quid tho, i then put a balenced jack socket in the guitar body and used the tip for std pickup o/p and the ring send for the piezo pickup o/p, then into a switch box so i change when i want...

good luck..
