Default for ecu gurus....

could a cosworth ecu be used on a v8?
and if it couldnt control 8 injectors could it still run 4 larger injectors on a v8?

any of the ecu L1,L6,L8 and P8 can run 8 Injectors with the correct boards.

cant see the problem in using it on a V8. Probably already been done.

The F40 runs 2 P8 ECU's

just though of an issue.

dont think the ECU is capable of anything more than firing 2 coils,

Im sure some of the tech ECU guys on here will be able to shed some light.

but i presume u will need a minimum of 4 coils to be fired?

Unless u can run 2 ECU's like the F40's

so shouldnt be an issue, its only when running a coilpack or rather multiple packs

i would think away from the webber stuff,,, as of cause you would need the ecu's to get mapped,, and your not talking cheap money then!

once you buy 2 ecu's, a tidy custom loom for them both, remap them both,,,,,,dont bother

buy a aftermarket unit

i might have an f40 wiring diagram here if you wanna see it

this is merely educational at the moment by the way! the engines seem to run a single coil, but the dizzy cap would OBVIOUSLY have 8 leads to the plugs coming out.
go on gareth,put up the pic,baffle me!lol!
im just thinking out loud as the price of cossie ecus is rather...erm....cheap at the mo!

It will be going into an Escort Cosworth and mated to a MT75 keeping the 4 wheel drive system. Transmission strength means that I will not be going much over 320bhp as I'm on a tight budget.

Why use a Cos Ecu?

Ford v8 Ecu are cheap and readilly available.

They run on eec 1V same as Cos?

There is a multimillion dollar industry in the states providing off the shelf chips to any spec far cheaper than the cost of mapping in the U.K

Almost every configuration of engine build has already been mapped.

If you need more power it's easier and cheaper to bolt on power, you don't have to go to the edge of reliability.

The V8 Ecu looks identical to the Cos and even uses the same 60 pin connector.

The standard Mustang Ecu will cope with 350bhp without any alteration.

Am I missing something, did you just want to make it hard and expensive work?

There are at least 2 add ons that allow you to modify the mapping at home.

no you didnt miss anything.ive been looking at currently carb fed motors and have seen l6s and l8s for a small amount of money and was merely wondering if it would work, and 350bhp isnt enough!
this was merely to ask a question out of curiosity.

just because an engine has 8 cylinders, doesn't mean it needs 8 injectors

true hence the very first bit i wrote right at the top was can it run 4 bigger injectors.im more worried about wether it would be able to receive input from 8 cylinders as obviously it needs to do something with spark etc....

There is only one company that I know of that can map the dual ECU set us as fitted to the F40 and that is MSD. There is probably more tuners out there.

Not worth it I'd have thought.
