I love saphs and always will.
I got slated and told to get the blinkers off as ususal for saying i thought in my eyes that the saph was still one of the best looking saloons.
Loved my saph miss it so much:

Thing is, you are right in what you say really,(apart from the ugly bit ) but it's a classic case of "more than the sum of it's parts"- there is somthing bizzarly attractive about a cossie (any model), and I would wager that %80 of people who have got rid will want another one, how many times do you see people selling up, going jap/BMW etc etc , then returning to the blue oval as nothing else ever seems quite the same?
I am addicted to them i'm afraid, the test to see if you have it bad is to go through pistonheads classifieds, and see what you fancy... The only things that I would take over a cossie now are either £60K+ for a top end ferrari/ lambo, or an ultima GTR. I might be tempted with an Evo Fq 360/400, but apart from that there is nothing quite like a shonky old ford to put a on your face

Interior - the dash is pants, for sure. But the rest, seats etc i think are all good - it's certianly a lot more inviting than the black sandpaper seats of the top of the range 06 plate Passat Sport i came to Uni in this morning! Ford have always done interiors well, and are famed for their excellent driving position. Shame bits fall off lol. Don't think i'll ever own one, but if i did - Mondeo dash

to like this.
persomally i love the saff if its nice and clean original look or if its rally slagged or track dayed up.
part of the problem i have with mine now cant make my mind up whether to put the stripes back on after painting or leave it clean looking as i really love both looks

didnt the saff win a design award in the late 80's early 90's
personally i think its a very attractive car, bit dated and big but it is proportioned nicely, unlike my escort turbo, used to look very odd from certain angles.
still not as good looking as an escort cossie though

Mr brannens magenta saph above is probably one of the best i've seen but i still don't think its a thing of beauty. Lets face it if it wasn't an RS or didn't have a cosworth engine then no one would really talk about it. I know that seems obvious but when you talk about good looking cars a Saph will just not be one of them.
The Escos puts it to shame in the looks department, its just too big. You wouldn't get many girls or people who don't know what it is drooling over one. Maybe because of the noise box.

I remember getting the brochures from the local dealership for the Sapphire when it came out as a kid - what a geek!
The facelift front end along with the well proportioned boot made it the best looking Sierra in the range (as standard cars).
There's an RS500 that lives around the corner from me and it has more presence than the Sapphire but I personally would be wondering what everyone was thinking whilst driving an old Sierra with a huge whale-tail on the boot! The Sapphire is understated - nice looks and not inoffensive.
It's not going to win any beauty awards but it's aged better than most performance saloon/hatchback cars from a similar era.
Cheers,
Andy

I like the stealth look of the saff and a nice clean model impresses me more than a motorsport look

BUT the Saph I have gets far more looks than the FRS ever did. Nothing screams out like a Saph.

The only problem with Saph's 3doors and RS500's is the dash, rest of the car is nice, went out in popeye's 3door and Benn304R's Saph, both nice cars minus the shocking dash

Saff is by far the better looker out of the 3 but would still love an Escos. 3 doors are nice but having been around 5 doors for so long, they look slightly odd.
Easy to see why it was called a taxi, my home town was full of the GL and GLX as taxis
Saff was the only one I wanted right from when they were launched and dad came home with the cosworth sales brochure (which I promptly cut up and made into a scrap book as a 7 year old!).

mate, you can be as critical as you like.you wont upset me im a realistice person and i believe everyone has thier own views and tastes,we would be boring if all the same. i look back at my photos and compare the standard plain car to the striped one and i relly love both, does my head in cos now i cant decide which way to go.
there isnt that many silver saffs left and they are all clean with wheels and thats it,which is part of the reason i striped it.i like to stand out.but do i re-paint it back to ultra clean standard or stick out again to get the attention?
essex_jamie
you shouldnt have sold it mate, there that certain character that a cossie has that just doesnt come from other marques,ok they can rust and break but they have an addictive quality
xr_craig
cheers matey, but as said i cant decide.think i need to see what others are out there and decide.i look at yours and the other few on here and think that looks so sweet and tidy i think mine would look better that way,and then look at mine and think nah it looks different and menacing

I think that the saph can be made to look awesome - Like Lambchop or Luicianos, but there are so many dogs out there, 2 grand rotten saph cossies with 200K on the clock and tiger stripes......No thanks.....
Still has not stopped me looking for one for when i replace my day to day bucket......
And I had an ex-taxi Saph.....rotten body, 1600cc fooked pinto, in LX trim and without a radio....Drove it for a year and it stank of petrol in the cabin....but at 250 quid on the road i was not caring!!!!
