Default Whit's the craic with MOT's

MOT is due in about 4 - 5 weeks and i want to know this: I've just put the 2.0DOHC into my 1.8LX sierra, and i want to know what the MOT tester would say? i mean i havn't changed the logbook yet so it still says 1.8. Do i need to get the car re-tested or whatever to make sure it's all safe blah blah now that it has a different engine or would a logbook change be sufficient.

Basically i want to know the procedure for the paperwork etc.

Another thing, my Speedo ain't connected at the moment as i need an electrical type speedo so will this fail an MOT ? i presume it does but never actually seen them test it!

nope, dont even NEED to change the logbook (well you do, but its the DVLA that want that done, not the MOT place)

and yes you need the speedo working... email stu_xr4x4@hotmail.com as he has some clocks you can use (with 2.0 DHOC revcounter and leccy speedo) and he should hopefully sell you them for a few pennies and postage

Even if i could just rip out the speedo and put it in mine sorta thing.. bit of a task but wonder if it can be done

speedo doesn't have to work at all, nor does the rev counter or odometer.

I had my Pulsar in for an MOT today and although it failed, it didn't fail on any of the above.

How would the speedo not working affect the roadworthyness of the car? Which is all an MOT is at the end of the day..

Did they like your Neons Jamz?

but surely if your speedo ain't working then your odometer ain't clocking up genuine mileage which would be illegal i presume. I've never seen them test the speedo but i was thinking they might have had a quick glance when they test the brakes? but then again they don't really spin the wheels fast enough for that.

Speedo works in mine but the odometer doesnt.

I have had a chat with a tester in our local group and he told me the odometer isnt a failure.

cool, well i want to get it working anyway as everytime i go out in the car the coppers always seem to be behind me and i don't know what speed i'm doing.. don't want to go too slow or too fast!

Cheers for the info, my MOT test looks like it'll be a tad easier anyway. I bloody hate MOT's!

Odometer is a failure, as it is a requirement of a road car!

Also it may get through its MOT with the engine swap, but it's still illegal and if you stack it your fucked!

Above makes below wrong IMHO.

I know mine doesnt work, but I want it working for Feb when my MOT is due.

IMO no mot testing station tests the speedo, so you will be ok
