My trip to Scotland (with pics)
So on Friday was the day to leave to head up North to Bonny Scotland. But of course as with any good plans they dont quite go according to what was planned. In the morning this was what greated me:
So i though ok it will easy of and not get much worse! How wrong was I!? The plan was to leave 12 mid day but even though my mate set of from Cardiff at 11:30 he didnt get to mine till 1pm (norm a 30min MAX drive). This was due to the snow closing the M4 down to one lane and now everyone was heading home before it became worse. So finally at 1pm he arrived and got it up the little slop to my house:
So of we set, while everyone was going home to get out of the weather, we was setting of for a 370mile drive north . Cars where getting stuck left right and centre but fair play to the little 206HDI she kept on plowing along. This was the seens on one of the roads:
Getting of the main roads now, as they are getting ramed because people are trying to get home and getting stuck in the process
Traffic is thining out now and we are quite happy because we can now get some moment up, and this way we wont get stuck. Though the country roads was truly stunning! so quite and picture'es (sp). So we get onto the main dual (M50 ) leading to the M5. This was down to one lane but traffic was low and atleast moving at a good pace:
You could overtake the slow moving lorries/cars in this but you had to be careful as the snow was bad and in other thin coating in outside lanes. So further up the M50, on the other lane we passed a lorry that had jacknifed across the carraige way, causing jams, however cars could pass on hard shoulder. But on our side traffic was moving at 50mph Closer we get to the M5 the less snow....
So we join the M5, while it is still snowing, it has not settled on the road, So progress quickens. Now we are marching on things looking great... until....... Yup you guessed it M5/M6 arghhhhh i hate this stretch on the network. I feel sorry for the people who have to use this all the time. IT was now snowing quite heavly and starting to stick as the traffic was bumper to tail not moving. 30miles of movement here was nearly 2hrs Anyway after this cleared up least we started to move on. We had some serious time to make up as it had taken us 5 hours to do just over 100miles So marching on now and progress good:
Things are looking good, we can now make progress at a steady 80mph ish. Then all of a sudden with 140miles to car the car which has taken 64k of hard abuse since new starts to show a weakness My mate looks over and said its either really windy out there or we have a problem. Foot flat to the floor now and car is suurging a bit and 70mph is flat out Quick pull over to check everything and all seems fine. So we set of and my mate said its a company car so even if we only have 3cyc we are stilling going to make it to Edinburgh the next 130miles So foot flat to the floor at 70mph..... then all of a sudden as soon as the problem came, it went and with 60miles now to go we was back at a decent pace with a BIG sigh of relief .
We finally get into Edinburgh at 11:30 12 hours from my mate setting of Bit of a mission but we made it. So checked in and just chilled out at hotel bar. But because of all the Welsh fans who made the trip the bar was rammed and signing commenced into early hours.
Saturday its up at 10am for full brekie then into the Pubs at 11am for full day of drinking. Now we didnt have any tickets so plan was just to get smashed and watch the game.. So we are going from pub to pub, and it seems like the Welsh had taken over Edinburgh Red shirts everywhere!! must have been out of 10 people 7 of them welsh to every 3 Scottish i have never seen anything like it Was amazing atmosphere and a truly great place to drink, the Scottish are as welcoming as ever and had a great laugh....
Anyway time is now 1:30 and though best get in final pub to watch game as kick off is 3:30pm So queing at this pub which we was told is best to watch the game. And while we are queing some North Wales people come behind us and started talking.... To cut a long story short we bought 2 spare tickets of them. We was deciding wether to but though fook it... Though North Waleans are a bit dodgy .
Headed of to the stadium 1hr before the game and we getting in! Something we was unsure of with dodgy tickets So we get in a sit down AWSOME. here we are in Murryfield something we had not been expecting. about 15mins before kick off i heared..... "excuse me mate your in our seats" Oh fuck the tickets are dodgy But after talking it was found out the numpty was in the wrong block so we are all fine to go!:
The game well..... lets not talk about it, proberly the worst i have ever seen and deffinatley one of the most boring... Sctoland one which i dont mind just wish the game was exciting
So head of back into town, and asusual with any rugby game fans are mixing with one another drinking and having a laugh. The night was so funny and i got so drunk i didnt take anymore photos But all i remember is Edinburgh rocks, and the Scottish made everyone VERY welcome even though it felt like Cardiff with so many freaking Welsh up there.
And heres quick pic of castle not the best but u get the idea
Trip home was uneventful and easy 6hrs

Thank god you got a ticket, cos driving from Wales to Scotland in road-closing snow to watch a game on TV is borderline insanity!
You lot not got TVs down in the Valleys yet then bud?
