Default people with carb knowledge

right, stavros is outside in the volvo 360 and it wont start, turns over ok,hes getting some spark, but unsure on fuelling. he has undone the fuel line to the carb and when turning over there is no fuel coming out,is this right?does it require vacuum etc from the carb to come out?or should the fuel pump be hoofing the fuel along the lines regardless?cheers

Has he ran out of fuel

There should be fuel coming through when cranking I'm guessing its on a mechanical fuel pump?

If he takes the fuel pipe off the carb and sucks really hard , he should be able to suck some fuel through. This would mean the mechanical pump is goosed , if no fuel comes through its either a blockage of ran out of fuel lol. Thats if it is a mechanical pump wich it should be. Could also try removing the fuel cap incase its a blocked breather

so if he can suck it through with it all off,or cranking over? then the pump is fucked?he's just put in a gallon and some cleaner and nothing.

he's reading the haynes and apparently it says that insufficient fuel in float chamber can cause non starting, and he dont think theres any in it,but if theres none in there does that stop more coming in?ie does he have to put some in there himself?cheers again

mechanical pump must be bollocksed, its got plenty of fuel.

should always be fuel pumping through that pipe when cranking over, but its not.

scrapyard time, im not changing that shit, esp when i got a better (and injection) one coming.

BTW, this was all on my driveway trying to fix it, i wasnt stuck anywhere, jus didnt have internet access to ask.

How can fuses blowing break a engine driven/mounted diagphram pump?

Seems impossible to me.

But at the same time its strange timing

a mechanical pump is driven off something internally like that crank/camshaft depending on what engine it is, so has NO electrical input whatsoever. My old mk1 escort pump went, and i just fitted a Facet electrical one instead, and blanked the hole off.
