Default Screeching noise

Mondeo has developed a screeching noise upon startup, goes away after the car has been run for a while.

Only started ion Thursday, anyway popped the bonnet and had a look round, suspect cambelt tensioner is on its way out as the noise is definatly coming from that area.

Have decided that seeing as that needs replacing will change the belts as well for peace of mind, just wondering if anybody could point me in the direction of getting the correct parts? Or is Ford dealer the best bet?

Cheers

JK

It's probably the belt that drives the alternator. Get some 'belt dressing spray' and the next time it screeches squirt some on to see if the noise stops. If it does you've found the problem.

Also worth checking that the cambelt aint hitting the top timing cover as seen and heard quite a few do this and its only usually on start up from cold.check and see how loose the cambelt is where it runs between the camshafts as this is where it hits the cover.

Ford came out with a slightly modified top cover to prevent this IIRC
