MELTDOWN!!!
cars that were fitted with cats as standard had to have a fuel cut or the cat would fail quite quickly

What actually causes the flames stu. Is it just the unburnt fuel lighting on the hot exhaust?

Obviously its when they overfuel but it is only a certain spec / set-up that causes this?
i was always under the impression that performance turbo'd engines also pop and bang when you hit the limiter and iirc some limiters cut the spark rather than fuel so unburnt fuel ends up going through the exhaust and igniting on the hot pipe anyone??

am i talking dog mess???

Haven't driven it in the two weeks since I collected it. I need to change the oil and give it a service as it has been standing for the last few years and only started up for MOTs. The oil is 5 years old, although its only done 2.5k miles!

I am so busy at work I never get a day to work on it. I started on it this afternoon and within a few minutes the phone rang calling me back into work. Just waiting to get picked up now and will probably be away all bloody weekend.

Yes, I believe it helps to cool the piston tops at high revs with no load, of course a by product of this is you get flames, which are or arn't a good thing depending on who you talk to.

BTW Flames are cool.
