I'm thinking of moving from Devon to Southampton and working in London. At the moment I commute 25 minutes to work, and not really sure if I'd get sick of a 2 hour commute most days or whether it's something I'd get used to.

9 miles, all country lanes and back roads through villages, no traffic whatsoever apart from maybe the odd tractor or stupid twat doing a 400 point turn in the middle of the road outside the school in a ridiculously large 4x4 (that she has no idea of how big it is) to get her kids to school safely, even though she lives round the corner ![Wall](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/wall.gif)
Though i did live in Bradistan for 6 months, and commuting to Thorner on a morning/evening used take over an hour, it's only 14 miles

You will get really pissed off doing that sort of commute mate, and when you say two hours is that each way or altogether in a day. If you haven't done it before you don't realise how bad it is.
I do what should be just over and hour commute each way to work from Lincoln to Peterborough on the A46 and A1, which should be good roads, but it hardly ever ends up like that because of roadworks, traffic, crashes all year round. And even with a clear run it is severely tiring and by the end of the week you'll be so knackered you won't believe it.
My job let me work from home 2 days a week because I just couldn't cope with doing it every day. I don't like doing it 3 days a week but it is a bit more bearable.
My advice, if you don't have to do that sort of commute, don't do it!
I've been doing it for just over six years now and it's severely aged me.
And of course it's not just the commute, you have to do a day's work in between the driving. Just say no kids!

I'm an IT consultant so i'm usually site based, i've had weeks where i've been working on the same site all week, and going straight to site from home. When it's somewhere like Hull or Manchester it's a total ball-ache, you are knackered before you even start work most of the time. You do the same journey 5 mornings and 5 nights in a row and it really balls you off.
Though as mentioned above, some days i'm in the office so 9 miles along country lanes, takes about 10 mins

i use that good old council chariot, the bus and take about 25-45 minutes to do the 15 miles into town.the downside is that sometimes you have to sit next to a fat b-o soakled office worker, the good side is that officeworkers would rather stand than sit next to a dirty scummy joiner so i end up with a whole seat to myself
2 hours each way will be a nightmare everyday though and is way to much imo.

On the upside I would get more days off in a row and see more of the wife and kids as at the moment she works on my days off to save on child care. I'd also get free train travel to and from work and an extra 6 1/2 grand london weighting allowance.
The missus would also be happier as her mother is in Southampton and she could help with child care.
I know it's swings and roundabouts and at the minute I live in an nice part of the country and have a bit of an easy life.
The saying the grass is never greener keeps springing to mind.
Cheers
Steve

No way would i drive 2 hours each way. I can walk to my work in about 20mins, or 5 mins(At most)by car.
I suggest you try it first. On your next day off try and drive each way around the time you would be if you moved. I'll bet after one day you'll hate it. I think the most for me would be 35-40 mins drive from my work and even at that the house/ location would have to be very nice!

Well it's something i'd do, just to give me an idea of what it'd be like.
I HATE having to drive to Glasgow during rush hour, on the very very rare occasion i have to i come home in a stinking mood. 2 hours worth of that would drive me mad mate.
You ever seen a film called 'Falling Down'...? That's how i see it lol
