Got hold of a copy of XP Pro need to know if I install it on my laptop which runs XP home will it wipe my hard disk or will it just overwrite windows

 

I'd be very suprised if it overwites mate, should just change the windows

 

tbh i would write all the stuff u wanna keep to cd, and then just set the cd-rom to bootable from the bios, bott from ur copy of xp, and do a complete format, then copy the stuff back across.

simply upgrading an operating system is something i very much dont recommend.

 

liek stu, back up ya data and make sure any apps u use are compat with xp and do a fresh install

 

what you need to do is wack the cd in the drive and restart, then it should recognise the CD just after post screen, it will ask you if you want to boot from CD say yes, agree to the license (press f8) then delete the existing partition, and format, then it will wipe everything on your hard drive, be advised tho its best to make sure you at least have a back up of your modem drivers if needed, at least if you have driver probs you can get on the net to find drivers etc.

If it dont boot from CD, you may need to go into the bios and make the CD rom the first bootable drive
