Default Window Tints

Our secretary at work has just got a Puma and she wants to get the windows tinted.

I've noticed the windows are quite tinted from standard and I know the Police can be quite awkward about it at times.

What is the actual law on this ?

I know the rears can go as dark as you like but she wants the same on all windows.

Any advice would be good as she doesn't want to spend money on getting them done only to be told she has to remove them

Thanks

The windscreen has to allow 75% ambient light through, the front side (pass&driver) have to allow 70% through.

At least I think it's that way around, luckily there is little reminder in our "tint man" kit.

Surprisingly, I've never gone to one of these tint shops that actually possessed a calibrated light meter, so how they sell "legal tints" is beyond me.

From what I've read and been told you cant really tint anymore than the standard tint the glass comes with.

But obviously lots of people do it and I think its a balance of luck and how much you take the piss. If she's has a limo black tint she will get pulled regularly.

i think u can get points for over tinted fronts as well now.

ive got mine down and as much as i hate the step down in darkness between the front and backs you've gotta do it to save the agro of getting them taken off.

unless u just have them all a mild tint. but if u ask me it aint even worth getting that done.

thats my car. you can see the difference between the front and backs.
but that is exagerated becasue normally if u look through the back windows you look through 2 windowns that are tinted (ie. a side and the rear screen)

but the front your normally looking through a side and the windscreen. which make them look even lighter than they are.

ive never had any problems with my windows, and ive been pulled a few times for other things and they wasnt even mentioned.

Tinting is a film which is tested at the factory - so providing it is not applied to pre-tinted glass it is consistent for light penetration.

These can be tested in factory conditions.

Not like the average policemans "assessment"
