We have had two blades now..and loved them both... first was urban tiger one tuned to stupid levels.. current one is standard... but still fast and fun...

TO be fair the newer 600cc bikes are far more fun and easier to ride.. the ducati is a no no.. they arent as fast as people think although they look and sound devine.

For your budget you will get a very new bike as long as you buy now... I havent read every post on this so sorry if its going over stuff others have asked or said.

It depends what you will be doing on it.. if you plan to do track events, then I would suggest the cbr600r not f or the r6..both handle exceptionally well.

Our blades that we had/have

Without hijacking the thread, What bike would be good to start off on? I would like something with lots of power and just take it easy, But i'm told it's engine breaking etc can be fearce so it's best to start off with a little engine?

Tbh i started with a 600 bandit did it up so it looked nice, admitadly not the best bike on the plant but was EASY to ride fast whch is what a learner needs.

Fazer 6's are supposed to be an awsome first bike as ar the sv650's

Lee.

How big are you?

I’m 6ft 1 inch and abut 15 stone and my mates R6 is WAY to small…if I was going out to buy a bike tomorrow [say anywhere between £2000 and £4500] it would deffo be a ZX6-R from J1 onwards.

I had a Gixxer 600 K5 for a little wHile and didn’t like it at all, however the 2006 ZX6-R I test rode was awesome!

im only 12 stone and 5'9 mate! My k2 gixxer was just about right weight wise but my feet werent flat on floor like so nothing bigger...or higher should i say..

Some right drivel posted on here Dont need lecturing on how to live my life ...i leave that to the women

I do like the cbr RR...im wondering if i could stretch to a k6 gixxer as they are smaller and a narrower seat

Ah right....you should be ok for size on most bikes then

I'm more of a Kawasaki man myself so I would go for the ZX6 over the Gixxer

Yes. Just charged the battery up on it as I'm going to start using it again. Can't beat the noise of a V-Twin. Annoys the tits off the neighbours not I've taken the baffles out.

Just got this in at the shop

Now, I haven't ridden a bike since I sold my 748 a couple of years ago, but, as seen as you asked for opinions.

First choice- Urban blade cos they are cheapish, reliable and kind of cool.

Second- Has to be a 916, not cheap, nor cheap to run but they handle like a dream, sound awesome, IMHO the best looking bike ever made. Could even get an SPS for decent money. I had the 748 cos could not afford a 916, but they look the same and I used to open the garage just to look at it.

Third-zx7r-yep, I know they are old design, heavy etc but with a mild tun ethey still go well, sound great and look great. I went overnight to Paris on mine, no problems.

So, there you go, no modern Jap bikes from me, they all leave me a bit 'cold', whilst no doubt they are technically the best bikes.

This is only my thoughts having owned 2 FZR600, blade, R1, Zx7 and a 748.

I'd start off with something like the bandit 6 or the sv650. Both a very good bike and cheap to buy.

I'll keep my ears open at the shop for you. Sounds like a CBR6 would do you right and won't sting you too much on the insurance.

I'd start off with something like the bandit 6 or the sv650. Both a very good bike and cheap to buy.
And both extremely gay

Bandit 6's are shite Dated engine, budget suspension, yuck. Basic transport but that's it!

SV650's are more fun but not very fast.

You've said yourself you want lots of power so I would look at any of the current crop of 600 sports bikes.
You can't pick a bad bike out of the R6, GSXR6, ZX6R or CBR600RR.
Same sort of midrange as the bandit/SV but with a decent top end when you wanna use it

Just thinking for a bike to start off on. Better to get used to a slower bigger bike than jumping straight onto an r6 and killing yourself. Also thinking of the insurance side. I got screwed on the SV when I first got it.

I agree my SV did get boring but it did give me the experience to upgrade. Depends on the person I suppose.

I found that my bandit wasnt far behind me mates r6 untill top end the the difference was massive. I used to leave me mate for dead in the corners cause the bandit is easy to ride where as he couldnt ride his r6 just like anyone new to bikes couldnt. Me mate come a cropper this year to ended up in field where as i've been upright all the time. I think getting a slower bike to start with has mde me more confident and better on my gsxr tbh. Its not the straight line pace thats leathal its how light they are and the way the front comes up over the slightest hump in the road, where as the bandit didnt cause it was a heavy old lump.

Kawasaki ZX6 is a very good bike to consider, and you will save money than buying an R6, and it will be cheaper to insure.

Seriously though i the flesh all polished up the bandit looked mint, when i used to go to local biker plces in the summer it used to get loads of looks, people trying to pick the cards off the spokes

Hardly anyone looks at the gixxer cause its just another gixer

Swapped case i wanted something quicker, if the bandit went like the gixxer i'd still have it. I was considering a z1000 but chose the gixxer. Might go for a z1000 next or a gsxr750 no sure yet

Yes, they big old buses those GSX14's

Good though. The only thing I can fault with them is the rev limit is really low, something like 8k from memory.

Just seemed to run out of revs as it was getting into it's stride
