Isn't it the size of the threads that hold the bottom plate on that give it away? M8's on std diff and M10's on the thickwall item.

Im afraid i cant answer those questions but i hoped that someone could ! Martin , hes actually a customer of yours , bought a gearkit and a modded 2wd Swan neck for an external wastegate .

Hes been turned over a few times and has recently bought one of these cases advertised as a thickwall but i cant tell him if it is or not ( 4wd isn't really my thing )
Ive done 200 miles today to try and help him , hope he hasn't been done again .

Looking at all the pictures you posted ... they all look like std parts. A side view is easy to i.d. I would take a picture of Dougs but he will never know that we fitted a std part and sold his thickwall!! If someone posts a pic of the side view I will indicate the area to check..

Doug.... Saturday.

Doug , did you edit because your not sure yours is a thick wall case or because of the stud size thing ??You also say yours is a Quaife thickwall case , do Quaife make the cases or are they Ford items ??

if it looks like the one in the pic he posted then theyre the same as the Cases i posted on the top of the thread . Is it really only the side view that can be identified then , and again i ask , do Quaife make the cases or are they a ford item ? Do Ford also pick them for 909 purposes ??

Tony, mine is deffo a thickwall case as supplied by Bernie, when you put it next to a standard case, it is easy to tell them apart (from the outside - even without the cover removed)....

I edited because I was misled by the pic of the 8mm bolts/studs......

I recall some rally peeps use a standard case and fit a strengthening plate + they drill/tap for the larger 8mm bolts (6 mm fitted to standard diffs).

Some thickwalls had 'ford' cast into the casing but were made by quaife.

sorry yes m6 std and M8 thickwall, I was told quaife made them for Ford motorsport, so if it has Ford stamped on it it "could" be a thickwall item.

take a look at the area with an arrow on the second picture, this an easy way to spot a thickwall. Also look at the area around the top mounting bolt on the right.
