Depends how it is declared.
But I believe major fines in place if it is proved that it has been fasly declared.

all the stuff i've won on Ebay that were form the states or japan were declared as gifts. THe first 3 or 4 times i managed to avoid the duty but afterwards i had to pay it.. wasn't too much mind you.

declaring it as a gift or having a lower value can work but at the end of the day customs can open what they want so either way your risking it !

If you declare it as a gift have the invoice sent to you seperately.

To avoid paying duty: Item must have no value, ie: sample item, no retail value or used item not for resale.
