It loved to play especailly when it was a pup, used to stalk me then pounce on me and lick me to death. They are proper protective of their owners aswell.

It would never go for anyone normally , but when i was little my older next door neighbour was hanging me upside down by my legs the dog heard me shouting and went for him big time , got hold of his arm and mum had to hit with a frying pan to get it off. That was the only time it ever attacked someone though.

Ours got quite fat cause it didnt like going for walks . It loved going for car rides but didnt wanna go for a walk. I used to try and take to the field across my road it would come with me out the door thinking its going in the car and as soon as you walked past the car it would just sit down and you had no chance of dragging it along due to its size Loverly dogs and have a proper charcter to them . Ours was called Laika after the first dog in space
Cheers mate, will pass this info on aswell

blue tongue's on some too,not only bear hunting tho they used to be a protector of samurai warriors(one man-one dog)
origionally they would use them for dogfighting but use the better one's for there own protectors.

Hi

As promised, sorry a bit later than i would have liked but heres some pics of Sumo my friends Japanese Akita.

The flash has picked up his silver hairs but hes not that old really!! He bounds around like a pup and is currently malting his winter coat ready for summer! hes a lovely dog with a very mild manner. my friends had him since he was a pup. They have only ever had one problem with him when he had some swelling round his tummy but this was drained off and was not life threatening or too painful for him.

I wanted an Akita, but after speaking to breeders was advised not a good idea as it would be my first dog. Absolutly gorgeous dogs tho, and with regards to them being vicious etc, its the same with any dog, any dog can turn, its all a question of training and handling in my opinion. I've had my dog since he was 6weeks old, brought him up to be soft, never bitten anyone, can even take food and bones etc off him without so much as a growl.

D19 STE

probably one of the best breeds around. was going to get one but when it came to the time i was able to get dog i hadn't read too much about them so got a rott cause i know alot about them.

theres a very famous true story in japan about the loyal akita who used to walk his owner/master to the train staton every day and even be there for his return after work(proffessor). one day the professor died at work and the akita waited all night.... poor lil doggy came back every day at the same time hoping his master would appear, until the dogs died.

VERY LOYAL

tell your mate dont get the american one, the head is too small and dont look as magnifcent as the jap ones.
