!*!* Looking for sponsors - please click *!*!
Me and Han are doing a sponsored swim for cancer research, i wasnt sure whether to ask you guys for your support but figured that it cant help to ask everyone.
Feedback seems to be positive so i have gone ahead and created a paypal account for sponsorship.
My main concern is that none internetty people wont have paypal so for that reason i am going to see if cancer research can supply me with a template sponsorship form that they may have.
I am also looking into setting up one of those "sponsor me" forms but not sure about that.
Right, the challenge...
To swim 5km which is 200 lengths of the 25m swimming pool that i have at my disposal. Me and Hannah are both going to do it, but this sponsorship will be for the both of us - we will, however, both have individual forms for our respective friends and family.
The address...
sponsoredswim@hotmail.co.uk
That is the paypal address that we have set up to get out sponsorships. Am i right in thinking that even if you dont have a paypal account, you can send me money from debit/credit cards?
If not i can do cheques or something but i doubt people will want to go to that much effort.
The fact is that every penny helps the cause, whether its £1 or £100 every little helps and we will be thankful for any support we can get.
One in three of us will be diagnosed with cancer during our life.
The disease tends to affect older people - but can strike at any time.
Excluding certain skin cancers, there were more than 270,000 new cases of the disease in 2001 - and the rate is increasing by about 1% a year.
Some cancer, such as breast, are becoming more common, while new cases of lung cancer fall away due to the drop in the number of smokers.
However, while the overall number of new cancers is not falling, the good news is that successful treatment rates for many of the most common types are improving rapidly.
It could be you... and it could be me
Thanks again for your support.
Alex and Hannah

As a footnote, im aiming to raise £500, that £1 off a small fraction of PF members.
Dont just dismiss this... it could be your mum/dad/brother/daughter that is affected by this horrid disease.

Im so, so sorry to hear that.
It took Hannahs grandad a couple of weeks ago and i have lost 2 family members in the last couple of years.
As i say, if this helps one person, its been a success.
Thank you so much.

Im optimistic £500 can be reached easily here.
27000 members on PF, if each one gave 10p, we would raise £2700 together!!
I think £500 will be raised by friends and family alone at this rate, so im going to up the barrier to £1000 - I'm going to get myself in the paper
Thanks for all generosity.

Northwester is this the swimathon as that is in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care this year? As you do know you can point people to your account on that you have on the web, when you sign up to the swimathon everyone gets a login on the internet site www.swimathon.org so when they donate money they can donate it straight to the charity, saves you having to collect any of the money yourself!
