Default Small grinding noise from rear..

When ever I brake, I get a little grinding noise from the rear drum.

Does anyone know what this can be? The car is stripped out, so I can hear pretty much anything, so not sure if it's a normal noise or not.

When I saw the heading for this topic I was going to suggest you'd had too many sprouts for Christmas.

Funny you should say that.

I've had the shits all day at work today, and when you work in an office full of women, it's not good.

my missus clio used to grind ont he rear drums slightly, i bought a new set of shoes to replace em but they looked like new lol

if its been stood then they will rust a bit, but a few pulls of the handbrake to drag it on while driving usually sorts that out.

if the shoes aint worn it may be worth filing the corners off the shoes and trying that.

as for the clio, i sold the cunt last week so that sorted that problem out

Hmm they probably need replacing.

I'm a dick really, I honestl'y didn't think you needed to do anything to drum brakes.

Fucking novice.

My bro turned up at mine last month complaining of a metalic grinding noise from the offside front wheel on his '53 Astra.. spent ages looking under neath and rolling backwards and forwards etc couldn't see shit! So I said let me drive it around the block and just as I reversed a little stone popped out from the wheel and the noise had completely gone and has done since

Could well just be the build up of dust from the shoes?

Common as fuck in mk6 escorts, even on low miles. Mine was bad for it even at 40k.

Open the drums and clean the dust out.

Sorry, to bump this, is it worth buying some new shoes then? Or just taking drum off and cleaning them out?

It's weird really Dan, If I break heavy from highspeed, it feels like the back passenger side aint braking properly, and the back end goes a little funny.

Maybe it's just worth buying a new drum.

well the shoes on my focus needed replacing at 130,000 miles, so they do last for ages.

Chances are you have a bit of shitty in there, remove the drums and give them a good blast out with compressed air, cover your face and eyes tho!! Then as fudge says, try pulling the handbrake on slighty as you drive, that'll get rid of any corrrosion or anything inside the drum.
