Bill "Badger5" Brockbank's yellow 1.8T Ibiza thats been on the Bristol/Swindon RS days @ Combe is getting close to 500bhp now
"mapping seems to have gone pretty ok. []
its looking as good as hoped.
step 2 & 3 yet to come too which should on paper yield some more power too.
First results in from yesterdays mapping session @ Custom Code HQ.
Further run gave 489bhp and 355lbft. (flywheel)"

One thing is certain though, ALL the 1.8T engines are EASILY good for well over 200bhp.

But as you say its all hearsay mate!
When i had my A3 1.8T chipped i found out all i needed to know on here!
www.audi-sport.net and she's coming up to 90K without a single engine fault!
With a turbo change (they come with a tiny kkk03 unit) ,injectors, decent cooler and re-map mine makes 330 bhp and revs freely to 8,000rpm..

I have another mate with the same motor in a mk2 with gt28rs with 334bhp and 380lb/ft

Mines a daily runner, has made 240@ the fly and 280lb/ft (dyno lottery ). It has the occasional hiccup but I do thrash the tits off it daily, so that can be expected. Its covered 100k and is proper reliable.
Ive just started a 20vt big hp build for my ibiza. 320 is a pretty easy figure to be had from the golfs/a3's. Bolt on kits run at around $1200 imported from the states, and i'd say a 1/3 of that can probably be re-coup'd from selling the OE parts.
The US seems to be much further ahead of the UK in DIY devolpment.

My IHI shat itself after 6 weeks because I was running 25 psi boost..
The GT28 would run that all day long...
I will put a GT series on next time it spills its guts!

hi
The 20v turbo lump in the s3 and tt(225bhp) are good for 350 with a bigger turbo and live mappin (plus filter, exhast , etc ) there are loads of diffrent engine codes and each engine has a benefit i.e early golf engine have a strong bottom end and later one have a bigger valve head and variable valve timing . i looked in to tuning my 20v and anything over 300 bhp is getting expensive you can run the standard internals at 350 bhp but your running them on there limit and your much better changing the rods and pistons at about the 300 mark . you need to change the turbo at about 280 coz the kkk turbo are shit your best to go for a gt28 or ihi . if you need any more info your best phoning jabba sport coz there one of the best vw forced air specialist around

Quick question:
How interchangeble are the engines throughout the VAG range (staying at the 1.8T (150bhp) base unit).
Will say a audi 13 1.8T out of a 2000 model, fit in say a 1997 model?

Yeah it should be a straight swap.
But for what reason are u going to upgrade, the only difference would be VVT, drive by wire and a ko3s turbo.
There is a company down in South Wales called A&M Motorsport that were doing KO3s turbo which have a slightly larger compressor housing and will make about 215bhp with a remap for £500.
Its a straight forward swap, and makes about an extra 25+ bhp.
They also do a hybrid KO4 which will bolt straight onto your manifold and is very similar to the one found on the S3, LCR TT 225.
you can be looking at over 270bhp with a remap on the conv.

Sorry, didnt read the post but thought i'd add that the IHI conversion can see upto 330hp on the stock internals. Thats from the engine used in the Ibiza, which will be the smaller turbo one so I think the 150hp?, cant remember the engine code sorry.
pop over to Seatcupra.net though and check under either the leon mk1 or Ibiza mk3 sections. The leon engine is different, k03 turbo i think? but its a little different inside. Someone there will answer all the questions if you cant find them with the seach though.
