an st24 ain't gonna blow anyones head off but for comfort and reliability (especially if you got kids and don't wanna be stuck on the m25 waiting for the AA etc) its in a class of its own.

If you get a cossie you should get a minter, full history, etcetc otherwise you may end up with a dog (theres so many around now) same goes for the rst's.

Mazda looks wank, but thats my opinion

I got an st24, 1998 50k on the clock for £2.5k in mint condition and only 2 owners, not a problem in 12 months so far.

Have you actually got any insurance quotes for these cars?
If not, Id suggest doing that before going any further!!!

T5 Manual gearbox is a superb box from whats been posted in terms of power by stavros in the 915 bhp nissan cherry thread.

the 850 T5 is a capable car.

I will be getting one, partly cos i like them and partly cos i'll be selling RICA software as well.

mate im not bothered not even gonna insure it as ill take the petrol tank and wheels and hubs off then it cant be nicked out of the garage nor will it set alite.

as said somewhere ill be driving it sub 50 miles i want a project car which i can just insure for the day once in a full moon and rag the hell out of it and spend the next few weeks fixing / uprating it, if you get what i mean.

swaying towards that volvo idea or an s13 now heh

I am quite tempted with all this Volvo talk Steve

Seems like you can get a proper fun car that goes well for not alot of money..............And you will upset a few people in it

Standard volvo 360s go well enough, mines bog shit stock 2litre carb, and ive gone thru 5 tyres in under 2 weeks

Rear mounted gearbox means great weight distribution and tons of castor as standard so has great self acting steering.

Hopefully when someone gets their ass in gear there will be some pics/vids of the beast in action last friday

i reckon a volvo 240 with the t5 engine, would be a ideal sleeper.

However, doesn't day-insure only work if theres already a policy out on the car? sounds a bit iffy to me.

Porsche911r101
did you really buy that cossie for £2900 ? where from ???
Yeah it was on Ebay, was on for 10 days with a starting bid of £2900 and buy it now for £3500. Auction ended by the time I sold mine but I kept hid details and gave him a ring. Called down to see it and managed to get it for £2900 after a good bit of haggling. Payed him for it and drove her home. Wing mirrors and fuel cap are being replaced with standard ones (getting them painted soon).

My running problem was solved today after tracing the wiring for injector 4 and finding it earthed on the chassis, causing it to dump fuel in constantly. Shes sweet again now.

Insurance for it is £928 TPFT / £1052 FC for me, 23 with 3 yrs no claims.

have 3k to spend, or atleast will have.

a mates offered me his mazda mx3 with a 2.5 engine, it does 210hp without turbo or supercharger, has coilovers, but its not going to get any more powerfull without mega tuning.

other candidates are

escort rst
fiesta rst
mondeo st24
and the car id really like - sapphire 2wd or 4wd

but 3k isnt much to buy a good sapphire with is it.

id like to buy a car already modified so i just have to spend money on insurance etc, servicing and running it.

what advice can you give for me.

heres the mazda:

i had an mx3 1.6... std
i you a fun (very!) car to drive, and VERY fast around bend's (wet or dry) its the for you !

hope it helps...

fiesta cosworth for 3k? when they're on ebay they're normally between 6-10k mark.

could probably get a tidy xr2t for that money though.

Re: volvos' theres loads about with manual box and even more in white!!

have you considered something like a bmw 325i e30?

if you look hard enough you might even get a e34 m5 for 3k.
