The ava cossie is also impressive.
291 km/h is proper fast for a saloon.

They are correct about the helmet,
Be assured as you get faster & pass 200 the car gets very light & then starts to move you cant steer in a straight line. I felt out of my depth & only Mark got me to press on to the magic number, never been so scared, like drivin on sheet ice. The bonnet lifts an inch over the wing line despite the pins, mine is now slightly bent. At TV2005 Mark was steering into the wind when over 200mph to keep the car going straight. Saw him shaking afterwards he was scared alright. Helmets should be compulsary cos this is now a Dangerous game if you want to break records.

Rod,

I thought our 185.5 mph in the rain december '04 was scary, didn't stop shaking for half an hour!

Was very scary, we were running on standard size brakes with circa 540 bhp that day, getting dark also, no wipers, Brunters was very intimidating

Have harnesses, not sure about helmets, if you wipe out at the speeds we are now reaching, I don't think they will do much good to be honest

Like Ade says if you wipe out at that sort of speed without a cage think all a helmet is going to do is make the guy cleaning up's job a bit easyer.

The most crazy run was at the Daddy Thrash in the rain, with puddles on the runway. Mark went out on a 'sighting' lap & ambled off into the rain. Came back & mumbled think that was 200, a fellow compeditor said, you are joking right he wasnt a 201.3 was downloaded. I will never let Mark do that again because his Brain deffo becomes disconnected when on these Topspeed runs, dont think any one else on this Forum would/could have done what he did that day & you guys wonder why I dont drive my car.

Look at the Spray & rain on the lens, the comments sum it up.

it doesnt look like much but i could hardly walk after my first couple of runs...

my legs were shaking with adreneline.

i know i have been close to these speeds on the my private test track but when someone actually tells you have done a genuine 180+ and you actually think about it, its pretty scary...

The video makes it look easy...it is far from easy...a million things going thru your mind and trying to spot the braking point when going so fastis not easy....

anyone past 180 gets big respect

wasnt really pushing the car that hard as it was my first attempts and even tho i had the trailer i still had to drive about 20 miles home when we dropped the trailer off.

I remember Rod saying I was mumbling bollocks for about half an hour when I did 181.5 in the rain

i dont think i would be at all worried driving at 170 but over 180 is different...

cant think what mark goes thru... 210 next time in Rods car next time

best just to prepare car 100 percent spot on then not think about what could happen

180 has become second nature, especially as we get there so quickly now , but beyond this does become scary. Looking forward to experiencing beyond the realms of 190+

know what you mean Ade..

you do get used to speed the more you do it...

150 is second nature...you dont start to think about it until the needle is off the clock which is probably the first time you look down at the speedo...

are you just running a standard speedo Ade?

i quite fancied getting a stack or something similar...

Was thinking of fitting an AIM dash, gives all read outs, what gear, even speed when sensors are fitted to the hubs, looks the bollocks. My tacho goes to zero when I hit boost, need something to indicate when we're getting close to the limiter (8600) need a shift light.
