Starter motor mate?
If you can see it, twat it with a broom handle or similar while Si/Ste holds the key as if to start it, it may be sticking.
Are the battery terminals clean & tight?

Right if the van was struggling to start it was probably due to a bad connection on the starter which when hot isn't a problem but due to the cold the resistance increases, when it finally gave up the ghost it was probably caused by the starter fuse blowing due to the extra current being drawn because of the extra resistance.
