Sorry mate but a bonus' is a total gesture, not an entitlement, I didn't get alot of money, but it's the thought that counts and I was grateful for what I got!

this year the pay structure was supposed to have been modified to include a performance related element in the form of a year end bonus, but as far as i'm concerned it's just been a kick in the teeth.
i'm grateful for having quite a well paid job in the first place, but i worked hard to get in this position and was blessed with natural talent and intelligence

I got some halfords vouchers, they don't get taxed apparently
plus a load of garages gave me bottles of wine and whisky (i repair garage equipment)

A bonus is just that, a bonus, an added extra, the employer doesnt have to give it, I am grateful that the company I now work for can make me live a decent lifestyle with the wages they pay me every month, and without the hassle and headache i had previously of self employment.

We never get a bonus.
but this was the first year, even got it handed to me directly from our construction manager yesterday in his office.

1) because as i stated above, it's written in my contract
2) it's not free - it's a performance related bonus that i have worked extra hard for this year. i could have sat on my arse all year and worked standard hours and still got half of what i did. that's why i'm disappointed. the hard (and skilled) work that i have done this year has not been properly acknowledged.
i realise that there are more important things in life. as has been said, everyday that you are alive and healthy should be seen as a bonus
my mother's death from cancer in september taught me that

I can only offer a possible answer to your question Stu. I would guess that the majority of people on here have done things above and beyond the call of duty throughout the year, things that arent required of you and arent in your contract, maybe short notice over time, coming in for 6 hours on a sunday, things go tits up and they ask you to do another 4, things like that should be recognised IMO, yes you're being payed for it but you've helped them out when you had the choice not to, so a little thanks in the way of a bonus at this time of year doesnt go amiss

the job center paid me my money early, that was my bonus as i dont have to rush around tomorrow getting bits for xmas.
well the wife wont
before i was made redundant we did get a bonus at xmas.
1 year we even got a fondo set complete with table cloth and all that, i mean wtf

i think we have become greedy and just expect a bonus , dont we get paid evey week , it that not enough , to have a job
any way i'm not sure what my bonus is as i've only been in my present job for 8 months

although one year they sent us 6 bottles of wine .. in a cardboard box .. via tnt .. i really enjoyed that box of broken glass

I`m self employed as a contractor in the Utilities industry and i work through a framework contractor.........He is a proper top bloke and took us all paintballing last saturday,followed by a nice Indian and lots of beer.... .....And all on him.... 
Wasn`t expecting anything so it was a very pleaseant suprise...
And the Utilities boss usually chucks us a nice bottle as well so it`s all good.....

best thing for me at mo is people stay in there jobs to get the bonus and them move on to another job in new year (well some do) so there should be more jobs about in new year so i can have a better pick of the bunch

myself im back in on boxing day and continue thru until the 4th Jan on nights, 1 day off and then back in with 12 more days!!

Problem with my work is they dont pay overtime even at your normal rate, yet expect you to work late on many occasions, no sick pay and still only 15 days holiday a year, the pay rate is not very good and the managers are clueless so staff moral is very low at the moment, so maybe a reason there for xmas bonus's, to raise moral if its been a bad year.
