Default Jct 28. opions please on aftersale service!!

Just after peoples opions to see if I'm being fobbed by JCT28 or what??
Basically, I traded in a Focus ST for an RS on the 6th Dec. Drove the 150 odd mile from Newcastle and chose an RS and within an hour or so I was heading back up the M1. Now, after a week and a half of owning the car the Engine warning light came on. This was late on Saturday night and had to wait until Monday morning to take the car into my local Ford dealer to get it on the diagnostic machine. Told them where i bought it and they said do you have a warranty, so I said yes it has a months warranty. So the ford dealer said that they would get in touch with them about the bill.
JCT 28 are refusing point blank to pay the £80 fee just to have it put on the machine but after i rang them they are willing to discuss with me any problems that arise once its been on machine.
They keep saying they would put it on the machine but are expecting me to drive it down there with a warning light on. I said 'can you not get a trailer and pick it up' which they refused to do.
So i got on the phone to trading standards and they seem to think they are being unreasonable and should settle the bill so they have told me to write a letter of complaint to them.
What do you's think, should the bastards just cough up and settle with my local dealer or what??? would be intresting to hear of anyone with similar problems from this dodgy dealer

what car?

what warning light, need a little more detail mate

have heard some questionable stories about jct28, not their customer service but more obout their overpriced cars

personally i would take it to fords, pay the 80 quid, then find out the fault, then you can discuss terms,

good luck

surely a months warranty should cover getting the testing done. BUT IMO you should have contacted the garage before going to the ford dealer.

Well a months warranty is valid but... They really need to either diagnose it
or have a look at it themselves tbh..

Its the engine warning light. Yellow light with a picture of an engine. Ford called it the 'engine malfunction light'
So i've got to pay the £80 myself and take it from there.

Don't know fault yet. Your right, it is £80 for them to plug it in.
Point is, JCT28 can plug it in aswell but its getting the car the 150 mile there. They won't pick it up and won't pay Ford to do it either so i'm fucked basically. Christ knows what will happen if there is something wrong with it

No, its gets plugged in tomorrow. They couldn't fit me in today. They were about to do it but them JCT28 give them the patter about not paying so it wasn't done until they spoke to me. By this time it was too late

so you havn't actually got a bill for 80 quid yet?

get jct28 rung up and tell them that - cos as i understood it - you had paid 80 quid out and wanted to claim it back from them,

the law changed over warranites no long ago, it made it so that you can have warranty work doen at any garage - not just their 'aprooved' £100/hour ones,

its not practical to take the car 3 hours each way to have a 10 minute job doen when it can be done locally - they've got to be able to see that?

That right. I haven't paid yet cos it hassn't been done. The Ford garage rang JCT28 originally to let them know they were gonna do it and JCT 28 said that they wouldn't pay.
I thought some kind of law had changed. Just will have to see what Ford say tomorrow.

IMHO you should cancel ford and get it down to jct28, i know it's 150 miles away but thats not they're fault is it?!

If you bought a computer from pcworld and it went wrong so you got your mate to fix it then went back to pcworld with the bill they would say fuck off - you should have brought it to us first.

I think the focus rs is intelligent enough not to self destruct with the engine management light on so assuming it's not missfiring and you drive it gently it should be ok to drive down.

if its a faulty sensor - they are not expensive - might just be worth takin it on the chin, TBH warranties aren't worth the paper they are written on and cause you more grief than piece of mind,

i had a noisy bearing in my evo 6 box from warrandrs - clive at rc developments (when they were next to warrander in northwich) said it sounds like it needs changing,

told this to warranders only to be told it was parts ONLY wannaty i had, so they'd pay for the £5.60 bearing, and i had to pay the £560 labour - FFS

took it to another specialist for a second opinion - turned out to be nothing more than pissy thin gearbox oil that had had a proper tatering and had never been changed - so much for FSH

I understand what your saying, but the rs is going to a Ford Main Dealer. Not me mate. If anything they should be able to tell me better what JCT28 can.
Just hassle taking it all that way. If it paid for by warranty, its an insurance company that pay up, not the garage so why take it all that way to get it looked at???

Do you know anyone with a bluefin handest? You can read the fault codes yourself then, otherwise, disconnet the battery for half and hour that will reset the ecu.

BY LAW ,,Junc 28 are within there rights to refuse to pay for another garage to look at the car , they have offered to look at it themself ,( i know your miles away ,but , thats not there fault ) The reason this is law is how do junc 28 know there is anything wrong with the car at all and your not just trying to scam them , also they shouldnt have to pay extorsionate dealer prices when they can fix it themself for a quater of the price

Think about it from there point of view

Whatever you buy ,,a car / tv / bag of crisps ,, if anything isnt 100% you have to take it back to where you bought it to claim any warranty / refund

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned what the fuck Ford think they are up to charging 80 quid to plug it in

Must be someone you can find that can read the fault code? You'll probably find it's just a dodgy/dirty sensor plug...

Exactly why j28 wont and shouldnt pay ,, I wouldnt want to pay £80 for a few mins work , so why would you expect them to .

I know the equipment is very very expensive to buy , but £80

Jct28 are a bunch of cunts.

My friend had a problem with them so they phoned him and threatened to break his knee caps!
He was left £200 out of pocket.

All these horror stories that get told time and time again about that place but people still use them

Most independent garages have the old Snap On Solus diag tester, wouldnt one of these pic the fault up?? Bung a back street garage a score and am sure they would do it for you!

The other issue is do you really want someone such as J28 looking at your car where they are more likely to take the fucking bulb out of the dashboard than sort the problem

its a hard pill to swallow but if it was me I'd want somebody I could trust to look at it regardless of cost and know the problem has been diagnosed correctly and fixed properly.

i'd phone J28 and say i'm driving it back to you to check, and say I will drive it slow but if it blows up or does any more damage it will be j28s fault.

they are welcome to collect it on a trailer if they wish.

i have not dealt with them personally, but from aprrox 99% of the psots (with +/- 1% error) that appear when ever their names are mentioned, they all go along the ilnes of "run like the wind as far away from their premises as possible" or "bunch of coonts" or "what a rip off" or "overpriced toilet" etc etc

i'm sure you get the point :0

in fact, i can only think of one thread in which they have actulay reviced any priase

on the other hand, it's not their fault you live so far away so you will have to be wiling for the car to get to them, and no, they should not have to pay for that service

if it had blown up then things may be different

won't the AA take you?

The FRS is modified. Its got a cat but changes I know of are exhaust, dump valve. Not sure about a chip. No receipt for one for it goes like a bat out of hell. Much quicker than previous ST and Esco Cossie.
One of the salesman bought a Evo 8 FQ 300 off me and he give me a shot of it when I put my RS in the ford dealer. He's had a bit work done on the Evo, reckons its about 350bhp now and I can honestly say the FRS feels quicker. So if anyone knows my car reg no. EA03 VCC what the fucks been done to it!!!
As it happens the car is still in Ford waiting to go on the diagnostic but they have gave me a little Focus diesel for the delay

Been reading the posts again and lookds like maybe JCt28 are not to blame. I can go along with what North York RS spares is saying.
Just makes you mad when salesman don't seem too helpful and Ford are charging £80 for a diagnostic.
Some of the points made about makes you think twice about dealing with them, I did only because couldn't find any around here for sale. If thats true about something being threatend to get his kneecaps done for complaining is shocking. Sounds like everyone should be giving the place a wide birth but they won't because of the types of car they have available.
