..I went in to check the car out today and to my horror found on the rear passenger panel and all around the doors pimples ...nothing to do with rust...i burst a few and it was like powder comming out and has left bare metal ...now it was bare metal sprayed about 6 years ago...so it aint anything to do with that....what has caused it.

Phil...

It looks to me like "Microblistering"....it is usually caused by moisture trapped at the time of re-paint causing corrosion over a period of time and emerging as these tiny "spots"

Might have been aggrovated by no longer being stored sheltered in a garage if thats where Rhys kept it previously, as sunlight can have a marked effect on how quickly this sort of thing happens.

He will probably break it.

Expect to see a thread something along the lines of:

For sale:
600bhp engine, from the same stable as the world famous yellow 400bhp m3"

..its a paint job that to get done properly will cost a fair bit as most of one side will need doin to blend it....so if i do it what happens if other areas get infected?...Getting pissed off with dodgy saffs tbh and may be time to step down for them.

This is in no way a diss to Rhys as it wasnt like it when i bought it..i think it was the fact i put it outside and put a cover on it then garaged it.

Its not that bad Phil, I would enjoy the Saff for a while before you make any rash decisions..... especially considering the amount of money you have spent on it!!

Look at it this way..... you would be more pissed off if this problem was on the Ferrari!!

As already said, it looks like micro-blistering. Usually caused by leaving a car in primer for too long before topcoating. When the temperature drops the moisture freezes and as we all know water expands when it freezes causing the tiny blisters.

My S2 was repainted in about '96 and has started to go in a few areas.

Phill do you keep the car covered up out side? i have had the roof of one of my old cars do the same after i covered it up for the winter. The car swets and blisters the laquer. If you can try and get it inside with heaters i ended up having to get my roof painted, but my mate had the same problem and put the car inside for a few days with heaters and most of the blisters disapeared.

The place that painted my Sapphire will not wet sand anything other than lacquer before compounding because of micro blisters. They told me that primer is porous and will absorb water from wet flatting causing this problem.
