Yes, its Very true that Ford Co cars are the only ones to have the fine elements in them..
In my Scooby Legacy, I have a heated wiper button
An element where the wipers sit heat up and after a few seconds, flick the wipers on and away you go... Its still nowhere near as effective as my old Rs Turbos quick clear screen tho but it does the job well

The biggest problem with these heated screens is that you can see the blimmin wires.
Now for the number of frosty mornings (considering i live in the westcountry, i can assure you it is very infrequently!) i would prefer not to see them...

Yep, tis true - Ford own the design and rights to heated front screens, and as such only cars associated with Ford will have them. Fords, Jags, Volvo's (some), Renault's (some) have them, but no GM cars like Vauxhall, or VAG cars like VW, etc. will have them
That said, there is a slight variation on the market in terms of "heated front screen" on some Jap and American cars, like Lexus, Dodge/Chrysler etc. Some of these models (and some beemers aswell) have "wiper heaters". Beneathe the black band along the bottom of the screen where the wipers sit on the glass, is a heater strip similar in design to the one you see on your rear screen. Many are hidden, tho some of the Yank ones are visible.
Lastly, a one last variation is the laminated heated rear screens you find on Volvo's and Mercs, amongst very few others. These are the same design as the Ford heated front screens - laminated screen with the tiny wire heater elements inbetween.
EDIT : Alex just reminded me. The new BMW Mini's also have heated front screens - proper heated ones, same as you get on your Focus etc.... Never thought too much of it, but when you do, thats a bit odd. Ford don't have hooks in BMW do they?

Got heated washers, seats, locks but only a button that blasts cold air out at the screen I believe the first heated windscreens were developed for the Mini rally cars back in the day and Ford nicked the idea and patented it
